Threads driffting off topic
Threads driffting off topic
I am sorry that I seemed to have caused offence to the. Administration but I I did only ask what I considered to be a legitimate and innocent question. Just an observation, If all threads are to be closed when they drift off topic well I’m all for that but it will shorten debates and some light hearted bantter, also, making this forum a rather dull place . I am not seeking to cause further offence just giving food for thought .
Re: Threads driffting off topic
Could do with the off topic section re-opening and ban all topics political & religious

Very well put, Johnone.
On one hand, I understand the "keep on topic" rule, whilst on the other, I think there should be room for harmless banter etc.
If you think of a typical conversation with a friend, you may start off talking about someone you know who has moved house, say, move on to where you're going on holiday, and end up discussing who makes the best fish and chips!
As long as it's not controversial, aggressive or personal, I think there could be room for more general conversation. The thread in question was about platers' ages, and I found it interesting to compare the total of 77 years for 4 players with the age of some of the posters, including my own.
The idea of a thread or category that allows this interesting and harmless chat gets my vote.

I agree, it's pedantic and frankly quite boring. Stops free flowing conversations for no reason other than to enforce pointless rules.

Unfortunately things escalated very badly last time and the only reason why I kept the site running was because the strict moderation of off topic content helped prevent conflict. The people who help run the site are no different to anyone else, and can become very stressed when personal attacks are taking place even if it's not directly at them.
There's plenty of general Wigan forums I'd imagine.
