I suppose it doesn't matter but rarely have I seen such a bad referee referee so badly.
The offside law seemed to have been suspended; high tackles by HKR were waved through with a cheery grin and just about every lousy decision was made on the night.
Perhaps the worst thing was when Budgie was trying to usher the ball into touch; it bounced on his foot and not helped by the touch judge who was 5 yards away and seemingly stricken blind, Smith (I'm assuming) decided that it hadn't been played at(?) and gave HKR the scrum. Truly that man shouldn't be allowed near a SL match again.

Farrell took one drive in in the first half, took 2 separate high shots and got nothing from the ref. 30 seconds later a similar shot on a KR player resulted in them getting a pen. is it any wonder that players stay down as its the only way to make the ref take notice that an offence has occurred. It's a miracle KR didn't end up with another yellow for the high shot on Miski. I look forward to Monday's disciplinary meeting results.

The second Peters moaned to the press about Lewis not being protected it was going to be that sort of performance from the referee and so it came to pass.
Perhaps coaches should coach and bleat like a schoolgirl with a skimmed knee to the press?

There was absolutely nothing wrong with the tackle on Miski, if we start penalising great tackles like that, then we might as well start playing tick.

Miski should be off for a HIA though. His head hurt enough to stay down, so he should be checked out for safety. And if the medics don't think he needs it the ref should show the green card. There's no other way to stop this staying down business (that I can think of at this point).

If a player is hit above the shoulders then he has every right to stay down.
I know there is an assumed risk of injury but whilst dislocations, broken bones etc, will heal with time, injuries to the brain are cumulative.
The more that is done to prevent them, the better it is imo.

Because he hadn't played at it. JB didn't even move his foot, the ball just struck it. And that's the rule. Would have been the same if it'd just struck his shin, say.

I can, don’t use the VR and let the referee do the job he is paid for.

But Budgie had moved towards the ball with intent to play, deciding at the last not to play because it was likely to go into touch, which it didn't until it had struck his foot. If it had happened behind the posts, surely the result would have been a goal-line dropout.
