Rovers have discovered Minchella's fate after being sin-binned last week.

Elliot Minchella is set to miss the start of Hull KR's play-off schedule. Rugby League Live can reveal that the Rovers captain has received a Grade C head contact charge by the Match Review Panel which, has resulted in a two-match suspension.

Minchella was sin-binned during Rovers' victory Leigh Leopards due to a high tackle on Matt Moylan and following a review, it has been deemed serious enough to warrant a ban. As a result, Minchella will miss Rovers' game against Leeds Rhinos on Friday night and will also be unavailable for the first game of the play-offs, which will be in the semi-finals should they beat Leeds Rhinos on Friday night and secure a top-two finish.

Minchella has been hugely influential in Rovers' season, one that could still see them secure the League Leaders' Shield on Friday night. The loose forward was appointed captain in the off-season and his performances have gone to another level under Willie Peters' watch this year. That has seen him earn international honours with England, debuting in the mid-season international against France.

One consolation for the Robins is that, should they reach Old Trafford, Minchella will be available for selection. But being without one of their most important players for the biggest game of the season will be a huge blow.

Of course, Rovers have a right to appeal and that's something they are likely to confirm, one way or another, later today. But for now, it appears that Rovers will not be able to call upon the forward heading into the knockout stages, a huge blow to their Grand Final hopes.

Should think themselves lucky it was only 2 games ban, should have been 3.

If they don't already have one, you can bet HKR are hurriedly arranging a reserves game for week 1 of the play offs when they will likely get a week off. He can use this towards his ban.

Elliot Minchella appeal takes twist with key change made

Hull Kingston Rovers have requested a deferred hearing for their appeal against the banning of captain Elliot Minchella for two matches, starting with Friday night's match against Leeds Rhinos, for availability of a defence team they want.

Minchella has been given a punishment for a high shot on Matt Moylan in Friday night's 24-0 win away against Leigh Leopards, which led to him being sin-binned, deemed Grade C contact. Rovers, risking a potentially frivolous appeal, have decided to contest the grading of the ban but not the guilty plea

The hearing had originally been planned to take place on Tuesday evening, ahead of Friday night's game with Rovers' final league position uncertain - with them currently being mathematically able to finish first, second or third. A top-two finish would earn a home semi-final whereas third place would lead to an extra eliminator game before those semi-finals.

After the game at Leigh, Hull KR head coach Willie Peters had commented: "I need to have another look at it but it's another one of those where players are going up and they are coming down, it's very difficult to get your tackle right. I don't think there was any intent there. It's one of those where we will just have to wait until Monday. But hopefully they see it for what it is. I don't think he intentionally went out to swing an arm and take Matty Moylan's head off, that's for sure. It was accidental."

Opposition coach Adrian Lam was asked about the incident too and said: "I don't think those incidents are sin-bins but the way that we've been this year it's the way that that is. There's another time to talk about that sort of thing
