THE all important dates for next season’s Challenge Cup have been announced with the draw for the first and second rounds taking place on Monday December 2.

The 12 Super League teams will join the competition at the third round stage this year instead of the round of 32.

Here are the all-important dates:

Betfred Challenge Cup – First and Second Round Draw

This will be held on the evening of Monday December 2.

The 34 teams in the First Round draw will be confirmed this week.

First Round ties will be played on the weekend of January 11-12.

All the UK teams in Betfred Championship and League One will join the Second Round draw – with ties to be played on the weekend of January 25-26.

The 12 Betfred Super League teams will join the competition at the Third Round stage on the weekend of February 8-9 with the draw to be held in mid-January – further details to follow.

Just throw into the mix, unless plans have altered, the SL clubs that enter in the 3rd Rd will all be drawn away. Proposed that way to give lower down clubs a decent payday. Can’t really disagree with that.

its a strange thing to do, but i must admit i like an away day at some of the lower league teams. There are many passionate / knowledgeable fans out there, who love their respective teams, despite being lower down the league ladder and not having lots of success

its a strange thing to do, but i must admit i like an away day at some of the lower league teams. There are many passionate / knowledgeable fans out there, who love their respective teams, despite being lower down the league ladder and not having lots of success

I agree it will be great to go to some of the older grounds once again.Im sure a lot of younger wigan fans havent been most of the lower league grounds.I do miss swinton away and fev

we had some Halifax fans on the metrolink with us after the GF. Was stood chatting with them and reminiscing about the 80s. I used to love them coming to CP and also our trips to Thrum Hall

I’ve no issue with an away day if it leads to somewhere we’ve not been to in a dogs age,very little from the brave new future under IMG has filled me with any sort of confidence but this is a sound idea.

Batley have worked wonders and have a tidy little ground now. Remember when they got to the Championship play-off final and said they'd turn down promotion if they won? They had the realistic approach that they'd only go bust trying and failing to compete in SL. I admire them for this.

Talking of old grounds, there are many that have disappeared. See how many you know! I'll post answers (There is one trick question!)

I know some teams moved around, like New Hunslet at Elland Road, Ryedale York, and also Swinton in Bury, but these are grounds I visited in the 1960s and I believe are the original homes of the teams. I'm not sure if the Cumbrian sides are still at their original grounds.

couple i've no idea on, although could guess Knotty Ash is something to do with Liverpool or area.

I've been to quite a few of the above but only started watching Wigan in 1984, so havent had opportunity with a couple (old grounds)

i remember going to Dewsbury in the late 80s/early 90s? a big Hindu wedding on in the area near the ground and it was bloody heaving , and we were struggling to park

Athletic ground was Rochdale I think
The Weaste, I'm guessing Salford, or Broughton?
