It really does. Iām now watching CC Rd 2 Oldham v Wigan 1989 & it was bloody freezing with 2 inches of snow on the pitch! Those were the days Winter rugby!
We are all soft now considering

I remember that game. We played St Helens only a few days later.
Remember the attendance being given out as more than the WCC. Absolute nonsense!
It was so much more crowded for the WCC it wasn't even close!

i crawled under the turnstile that night

. Dad and his mate had 2 tickets between 4 of us. managed by 1 more at the ground, so his lad got the ticket. I had big black duffel jacket on, so crawled under why my dad queried whether they could get the other ticket into our stand as it was a junior. Also got a free pie after the game as they had loads left

I watched the Regal Trophy final against Wire the other night. A few things struck me. First was the scarcity of penalties, I hardly remember any, and there was no serious foul play that I recall (certainly not always the case in that era !

). And yes, Kelvin Skerrett was playing! But what did strike me was a readiness by both sides to attempt variations in their restarts to try to regain possession, much less concern about "getting over the gain line", and by modern standards, admirably quick and clean p-t-b's. And a lot of passing in midfield. All in all, I suppose you'd say, a more attacking attitude than the modern game.
