O’Neill pens new five-year deal

Post by josie andrews »

* Hooker Brad O’Neill has signed a new 5-year deal with the club.

* 22-year old to remain with the Club until at least 2029.

* O’Neill: “I feel that this is the best Club for me to develop, with this group of players, coaching staff and facilities.”

WIGAN WARRIORS ARE DELIGHTED TO REVEAL THAT HOOKER BRAD O’NEILL HAS SIGNED A NEW FIVE-YEAR DEAL WITH THE CLUB THAT WILL SEE HIM REMAIN UNTIL THE END OF THE 2029 SEASON.

The former Halton Farnworth Hornets amateur was already contracted until 2027, this new deal ties him down for two further years.

O’Neill has played Rugby League since the age of five and joined the scholarship in September 2017 where he would also represent the England youth team. He progressed into the Academy in 2019 and also represented Lancashire Academy twice.

Brad is currently sidelined with a serious ACL injury but is expected to make a full recovery and return to action around April 2025.

He is already a Grand Final winner, a Challenge Cup winner, a World Club Challenge winner and a League Leaders’ Shield winner.

On signing his new deal, Brad O’Neill said: “I’m over the moon to extend my contract at Wigan. I feel like there is still a lot of hard work to be done, a lot for me still to learn, and I feel my best years are certainly in front of me. I feel that this is the best Club for me to develop, with this group of players, coaching staff and facilities.”

Head Coach Matt Peet said: “When Kris [Radlinski] told me that he and Brad had agreed this deal, I was delighted. It’s a big move for us to secure such an important member of the team for such a length of time.

“I love working with Brad, he is a great example of a Wigan player on and off the field. The fact he has come through our Academy, a lot of our staff will be really proud.”

Chief Executive, Kris Radlinski added: “Brad would rank highly both as a player and as an individual in our internal discussions. He has the potential for an outstanding career, with his best years still to come. He embodies the core values we cherish at our club and will play a key role in shaping our culture for many years to come.”

Brad O’Neill is sponsored by MA Brickworks.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Great news. Next step, get young Forber on a 5 year deal.

I would like to see that but, with the length of O’Neills contract, and the fact that Leeming has a contract until the end of 2027, it is not looking good.

I can see Forber going on loan in 2025

I agree I can see young Forber leaving if I’m honest unless Leeming makes way

Forber will be gone by 2026.

He can’t sit in the 3rd hooker role until 2028 (when Leemings contract is up)

It’s beyond that I am concerned about. Forber has a great delivery from dummy half. I see him at Saints or Wire.

Well he has a couple of months to Interchange with Leeming until O Neil is even back playing. After that, we have to consider Leemings injury and fitness issues recently, it wouldn't surprise me to see Forber in and around the matchday 17 all season
