Ashes venues revealed as Wembley and Premier League stadium among RFL picks

Wembley, Headingley and Everton’s new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock are in line to host this year’s eagerly-anticipated Ashes series against Australia, Love Rugby League can reveal.
RFL bosses have been working hard behind the scenes for the past few weeks to finalise the schedule for the first Ashes series in more than 20 years.
Sources have indicated to Love Rugby League that Wembley has been pencilled in

we have 2 stadiums, that i believe we should be looking to get massive attendances at with Wembley (but Tottenham or Arsenal would be good alternatives) and Everton. But seriously, Headingley with about 20k on, absolutely not the right call. If its about sharing out the geographical spread of the games, why not Elland Rd (much as i think its a dump) or take it to one of the Sheffield clubs but Hillsborough would be better as 40k capacity
get tickets on sale now, and promote the hell out of the games though once they formally announce, and lets see some massive crowds for all 3

There is our ground, Hull FC & even Huddersfield have more seating & have better facilities for everyone than bloody Leeds with that away terrace!
There are still the same weeds from years ago on those steps which, IMO, are dangerous & uneven. Much like Castlefords away uncovered end

i'm usually quite critical of the RFL and their lack of vision for the sport, and agree with 2 out of the 3 stadiums they are suggesting in the article
I think we need to think bigger than the stadiums you have mentioned Josie. My first memories of watching Great Britain were at Wembley, Old Trafford, Elland Rd etc, but we seem through various reasons to have gone backwards and accepted mediocrity. If we only take a 25k seat stadium, then thats all we will get. Push the boat out and get our game played in front of the crowds the players deserve. Market the hell out of it as soon as they can, get advertising all round London, Liverpool etc, get it mentioned on Radio 5 live, talk sport, push it out on whatever social media everyone is using these days, and get the stadiums packed out. The RU 6 nations generally sell out 12 months in advance, and oversell tickets, so we should be aiming to match full stadiums for the test series and get some big name sponsorships for it too

What a great opportunity to promote this event given all publicity from Vegas. I won’t hold my breath, buts let’s hope the RFL can do a genuine marketing campaign for this.
I can’t wait for the Aussie’s to tour again.
I’m surprised Newcastle wasn’t in the mix given we take Magic Weekend there, thought it would of made sense to continue to push and promote in that area.

Yes I understand about the stadiums I was just making the point about Headingley stadium, it’s rubbish in the West Terrace!

The Yorkshire centric bias of the RFL coming to the fore again, Headingly is nowhere near good enough or big enough for an Aussie Test match and Elland Road is a sh**hole.

We travel into Liverpool for nights out etc and to see that stadium come to life is a joy to behold can’t wait to go if indeed it is chosen for the ashes
