Despite behind at the South Leeds Stadium, the Vikings came up with two converted tries – one assisted by Hodkinson – to go 12-10 ahead. However, Hunslet crossed twice before the break to lead 20-12 at the interval.

Rhys Williams cut the points difference with a finish in the corner before Max Roberts restored Widnes’ lead before the hour. Despite a fourth Hunslet try, Roberts crossed for his second with 14 minutes remaining as the Vikings held on to advance in the competition.
