MATT PEET HAS LOOKED AHEAD TO SUNDAY’S BETFRED SUPER LEAGUE HOME CLASH AGAINST HUDDERSFIELD GIANTS.

The Warriors return to action at The Brick Community Stadium following a historic Super League victory over Warrington Wolves at the Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas.

Reflecting on the experience in the United States, Peet said: “You could feel the positivity. If I hadn’t been there it would have been difficult to comprehend rugby league on that platform. It was a real celebration of rugby league and I’m proud Wigan and Super League were involved. Kris must be so proud in creating that opportunity for the team, who had a responsibility and delivered. The positivity around our Club has been building for some time, and we must continue that.”

Praising the support from families, Peet said: “You’d have been amazed if you saw the number of family members that came over – even players who weren’t playing had representation including Ethan Havard. Family is at the heart of everything we do. Even when we lose our families are the ones waiting for us and our Club does an excellent job in including them on our journey. It all contributes to our culture.”

Providing an update on the squad post-Vegas, Peet said: “The team had their first sessions this morning and they’ve reported through positively. We’ve increased the amount of wellbeing and protocols wrapped around the players, and we need to train intelligently to look after them. Our staff work very hard and the players are very diligent themselves as most the time their recovery comes back on their discipline. I’m seeing good signs as expected.”

Jai Field has been nominated for the Betfred Super League Player of the Month award, and on the full-back’s start to the season, Peet said: “We are really pleased with Jai’s form both sides of the ball. He’s a really important part of what we do in the way he leads our attacking shape as well as our defensive organization. He’s in a good place at the moment.”

On Huddersfield Giants, Peet said: “Even though they’ve had a tough start with injuries, they’ve certainly been competitive and committed. Luke [Robinson] has got his team working hard and their record in the first half of games is really good. They’ll find their fluency with the ball soon, and I’m expecting a tough challenge on Sunday.”

The Warriors will celebrate International Women’s Day against Huddersfield Giants, on which Peet said: “The growth of Women’s rugby in our town has been unbelievable in the last five years. One of the reasons our attendances are on the up is because there are so many more families engaged in the sport whether that’s as a player or supporter. I owe a lot to women so I hope everyone can get down this Sunday in what will be a great way to celebrate International Women’s Day.”

Tickets for Sunday’s clash against Huddersfield Giants remain available to purchase from The Brick Community Stadium Ticket Office and online HERE.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
