The Australian full-back has been electric to start the 2025 campaign!
Wigan Warriors full-back Jai Field has enjoyed a stunning start to the 2025 Super League campaign, producing some of his best form in the competition. He most recently had a starring role in his side’s comeback over Huddersfield Giants, with Matt Peet’s side scoring 34 unanswered second half points over Luke Robinson's outfit.
Field has been one of Wigan’s best performers to start the new season, already recording five tries in four rounds - just two away from his total tally last year, which however included a stint on the sidelines due to injury.
He is currently the joint-leading try-scorer in the competition with five alongside rising St Helens superstar Harry Robertson, and is back to his best, replicating form from the 2022 campaign.
That year, the Australian 27-year-old enjoyed a staggering campaign with 20 Super League tries, and 24 assists - the fifth most in the competition. Broken down, that’s 0.7 tries and 0.9 assists per game (26 matches). In total, he made 30 appearances in all competitions for the Cherry and Whites that year, after an injury-hit debut campaign in 2021. It marked the second-most by any Wigan player that season.
He impressed again in 2023 with 16 tries and 21 assists in Super League, but appears to have gone up an extra level to start this season.
With five tries in four appearances already, he appears to have an added edge in attack, heavily involved and taking on the line with every opportunity. If he continues on the same track, across the regular season of 27 rounds, he could be looking to cross the whitewash a predicted 33 times. Of course, this is all on paper. But Field is certainly firing at the moment.
The former NRL man scored a hat-trick in Wigan’s 46-4 demolition over Hull FC in round two, and took that form into the Las Vegas spectacle against Warrington Wolves. He registered a try and two assists in the historic 48-24 triumph in Sin City.
He is already averaging 6.75 tackle busts per game, with a total of six clean breaks, the joint-most alongside Hull KR's Joe Burgess, in Wigan's hot attack. The 2024 Grand Slam champions have already scored 138 points, the second-most behind St Helens, who claimed a record 82-0 result over Salford Red Devils in the opening round.
His 27 tackle busts is the third-most in the competition, behind leader Jack Welsby (32) and superstar team-mate Junior Nsemba (28), with Bevan French just behind with 26.
In the win over Huddersfield, Field produced a sensational two minutes in the closing exchanges. He first denied Adam Swift in the corner with a try-saving tackle, which could have threatened a nervy ending, before setting up Jake Wardle just moments later through a massive gap. Not stopping at that, Field then went to cross himself just three minutes later
It has certainly been a dazzling start for the Wigan Warriors number one, with Hull FC up next in the Challenge Cup fourth round for the current title holders.

Wigan Warriors star's sensational start to 2025 with Australian producing his best in Super League
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
