Staying There

So far this season, I'm reminded of the old saying 'its one challenge to get to top and a completely different one to stay there'. I think this season will be a true test of Matt Peet's coaching skills as other teams start to rumble us. I feel we have been out-coached twice already this season, against Leigh and latterly against Hull FC. We still have most of the same players but perhaps they need to be used in a different way as at least two, well coached, teams have already found a way to beat us.

I agree to an extent. I am not sure that we can conclude much either way as to how the rest of the season will go (aside from knowing we won’t be going to Wembley, sadly). I think the Vegas trip has completely thrown any continuity out of the window. I expect it will be a couple more weeks before we get a real sense of what the year may hold, hopefully having avoided any more serious injuries.

I have complete confidence in Peet. He has earned it.

Well I disagree, I think we beat ourselves on both occasions.

From what I can see about Peet.

1. He is an exceptional motivator who connects with his players on multiple levels.

2. Based on his years thus far, I am not convinced on his tactical nous.

Fantastic achievement last year, no doubt. However, it was helped by a poor Leeds/St Helens outfit (who realistically are/should be our only competitors, coupled with Field and French.

Wire certainly hadn't worked us out.

He's not doing much to change my view on point number 2.

Last season we lost five league games. Thus far this year we've lost two.

Do people really believe that wigan would promote Peet.to head coach if.he had no strategic ability and that his 77% win ratio (before the Leeds match) is down to motivation and luck?

Interestingly he identified the issue from the Hull game in that once we get on top we stop respecting the ball and chance plays we shouldnt. The test is to correct the behaviour but if he was no good at tactics I'd have expected the Burgess response to Warringtons losses (not.to say Burgess isn't tactical just his responses where basically I have no idea what the issue is)
