Report

An electric start to the tie saw the Warriors score twice inside six minutes. First a break down the left edge took the Warriors deep inside the Barrow half, before a switch of play on the last saw Georgia Wilson send T. Power over for a debut score. A penalty then presented a fresh set for the Warriors, who took advantage as Jones powered through the Barrow defence to score.

The Warriors extended their lead four minutes later when a clever offload from S. Power allowed Wilson to dive over, with Foubister adding the extras from the tee. Powerful carries from S. Power, Williams and Mary Coleman took the Warriors into dangerous territory, before Foubister broke the line from 30m out to score her first of the afternoon. A successful conversion put Wigan 20-0 ahead after 13 minutes.

Having denied Barrow points on back-to-back sets 10m out, the Warriors added a fifth try when Wilson accelerated more than 80m to score. Denis Betts’ side were further rewarded for their dominance when Foubister’s crossfield kick on the last was collected by Eva Hunter, who powered through the opposition to defence to score. Successful kicks from Foubister and Veivers put Wigan 32-0 ahead.

The Warriors added further tries before the break when Foubister grounded her second in the corner, before impressive work from Grace Banks saw her offload send Jones over on the opposite side. Kicks from Foubister gave the Warriors a 44-0 lead at the interval.

Wigan came out firing as Remi Wilton broke through the Barrow defence to score on her debut, before Foubister completed her hat-trick off the back of a sensational dummy. Successful kicks from Foubister extended the lead to 56-0.

Impressive work from Wilton and Coleman on the last set up Ellise Derbyshire to score in the left corner, before T. Power found space on the right side for a second. The tries continued to come at Robin Park Arena as Derbyshire and Eva Hunter doubled their totals as the Warriors reached 78 points.

Shortly after T. Power was denied a debut hat-trick for hitting touch, Coleman broke through the middle to ground between the sticks. Foubister added the extras to hit 34 points with the final action of the tie.
