Six again

Post by josie andrews »

That’s another game (Good Friday) where once again we don’t get another six!
I thought Abbas and Liam Marshall were phenomenal, Abbas will grab the headlines (because of his tries). They’ll never get a six-again those two, Abbas Miski and Liam Marshall, yet again no six-agains for us in the whole game, believe it or not.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

And Saints got three. They also won the penalty count 5-4.

I almost feel like losing the pen count so narrowly is a cause for celebration! As for 6-agains, I always hate this about the TV footage; they never switch back to a wider angle shot so you can see whether the defence is running offside, and when, or not, it it is penalised.

There's a very illuminating thread on the RL Fans site started by Nicky K on this together with penalty count stats for/against Wigan compared to the rest of the league.

Your missing the point, its referring to how many pens Wigan get, not how many we give away (which is low).

Its a really good thread and some good work put in to create the tables etc.

My two penarth is that refs have a habit of evening up games, a classic example was v Hull in the CC - we were running away with it after 20 minutes - then the evening up kicked in. Added to which Salford have been tanked most weeks but win the penalty count - doesn't make sense and doesn't explain the low pen counts in Wigan games.

i think what was telling on Friday was we received 2 penalties early in the game, and then got nothing there after. Even the sin binning of Mbye, was a scrum, and it was only after about 30s did he even think about pausing, assuming because the crowd was irate, and the VR said something to him. Other than that, we wouldnt have got that penalty. Also, for us to get no 6 again, whilst Saints got 3 i think, just shows how we are being ref'd differently to other sides
