Chester will leave the Leopards after three years at the club.
Chris Chester, Leigh Leopards' Director of Rugby, will leave the club this week. All Out Rugby League understands Chester will leave his position at the Super League club after more than three years in the post having overseen one of the most successful periods of the club's history.
Chester joined Leigh in 2021 following his departure as head coach of Wakefield Trinity and was placed in charge of on-field matters. His first task was to appoint a coach, landing Adrian Lam, before overseeing the club's player recruitment. During his time at the club, Leigh have enjoyed incredible success. They earned promotion to Super League in 2022, won the Challenge Cup for the first time in 52 years the season after and have reached the play-offs in two consecutive seasons.
Key to that has been a successful recruitment policy which has seen the club earn high praise, particularly for their overseas transfer dealings which have seen the likes of Edwin Ipape, Lachlan Lam, Tom Amone, Kai O'Donnell and John Asiata all play for the club. However, Chester's time at the club will now come to an end, with the 46-year-old handing his notice in earlier this month. He will report for work for the final time this week.
The club arranged a presentation for Chester ahead of their game with Salford Red Devils on Saturday to thank him for his efforts during his time at the club. For now, it's unclear whether the Leopards will look for a replacement. Owner Derek Beaumont has publicly expressed faith in both Chester and Adrian Lam to oversee recruitment. Lam signed a three-year contract extension last year.
