New signing Danny Hill

My mate is working in Hull at the moment and was in the JJB gym over there. He was talking to a young second rower(?) from Hull in the sauna called Danny Hill and reckons he has signed a 2.5 year deal with us and starts training today.

From talking with Hull fans my mate gets the impression he's a good young talent rather than a national league body or reject making up the numbers.

It is a mystery why we have signed this player. Our side already has too many youngsters in it and has plenty of back row forwards.

Unless he is already something special (in which case why have Hull let him leave?) I can't see the logic in the signing.

Hull born Danny started his career at West Hull. He has been on the clubs scholarship scheme from 14 years old and has represented England Schoolboys. Danny is a very talented young player who likes to play with plenty of aggression and enthusiasm. Danny made 3 appearances of the bench in 2005 at the start of the season. Danny made his first grade debut in 2004 against local rivals Hull KR and was a former England Academy player who toured Australia back in 2001.

(From the Hull club website)

I'm with DaveO on this one (shock!). What sort of message is that sending to the likes of Hansen, Hock, Tomkins - our much praised Academy setup isn't as good as everyone says? And to Wilkes & James - "sorry lads, shouldn't have signed you in the first place"!
He might well be a good player, but second row is at the bottom of the priority list.

Wigan Warriors can confirm the signing of Hull FC Second Row Forward Danny Hill . The 21 year old has agreed a contract until the end of 2008.

Speaking about the addition to the squad, Head Coach Brian Noble said,

"Danny is a quality young player and will be a great addition to our squad. We made an official approach over the weekend and we are delighted he has agreed to join us."

Danny began his playing career with West Hull and came through Hull FC's scholarship scheme. He plays with plenty of enthusiasm and aggression and has also represented England Schoolboys and Academy, touring Australia in 2001.

Danny has been given squad number 36.

Very average player IMO -Not big enough to suit his style of play and his handling ability is not great.
I agree with other comments as this is an unneccessary signing -we seem to be overloading with players especially forwards that are just not good enough.
Hargreaves
Wilkes
James
Tomkins
Hansen
Tickle
McAvoy
Hill-along with many others are average at best.
i agree with them all except james and hansen... hansen's not had a proper chance because of injury and james puts his all in every week and plays well compared to the rest of the team

If the lad is only half decent, he should be included in the starting line up cos what we have got at minute are just people playing on names. Give the lad a chance. Nobby must have seen something in him :)
