Fielden for £450K

Post by Fujiman »

Don't know how official this is but here it is from the web

Official from club:

AN ANNOUNCEMENT BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF BRADFORD BULLS

22nd June 2006

The Bradford Bulls Board has today announced that Stuart Fielden has
requested to be released from his contract. The club has had a number of
conversations with Stuart over the past few weeks but it was not
possible to persuade him to change his mind.

Yesterday evening, after lengthy consideration, the Board of Bradford
Bulls therefore accepted an offer from Wigan Warriors for Stuart Fielden
for a figure approaching £450K.

Steve McNamara has been aware of this possibility for some time and has
short and long term plans in place for the development of the team. The
Board has confirmed that he is able to reinvest Stuart’s salary and is
fully committed to continuing to spend the salary cap.

The Board would also like to confirm that no other players are for sale.
To the contrary, the club expects to be making significant new
announcements in the near future.

Bulls Chairman Peter Hood said today:

“I am on record as saying that Bradford Bulls is not and will not become
a ‘selling club’ and that remains the position. However, when a player
who has a year and a half remaining on his contract tells his Head Coach
that he has made up his mind that he no longer wants to play for the
Club and instead wants his release - as Stuart did - then we are dealing
with an extraordinary situation in which the Club has little option but
to consider letting him go – provided of course that the terms are
right. In that connection I am satisfied that the value extracted from
the Wigan club is the best that could have been achieved.

Stuart Fielden said:

“I have enjoyed my time at Bradford but I feel the time is right for me
to leave. The prospect of a new challenge and a much bigger salary made
the decision easy for me.”
