Perhaps Wigan are planning to join the RU Premiership next year because in the first 10 minutes I thought I was watching a Rugby Union team, every penalty Wigan get they seem to want to kick at goal, and some fans encourage them which annoys me because so early on there is no need to go for goal, Wigan should have kicked for touch and tried to get a try and atleast keep Wakefield in their own half for a few sets.

People forget that if a team kicks a penalty then they are back in their own half, where they could make a mistake or the opposition could do a short kick off. Sometimes field position is better than points.

The whole think shows a lack of confidence and poor onfield leadership. In the last few minutes Wigan should have been looking for a try and I think Noble was shocked that they decided to go for goal at any stage during the match.

I hope he reminds the player that 2 points won't always be enough and sometimes they will have to try and score tries or control the game.

To be honest, the position we were in at the start of Friday's game (ie. bottom of the league), I totally agreed with them taking 2 points early on. Yes, we go back into our own half, but it eats up time, gets points on the board (2 points is better than potentially no points if we messed up the resulting 6 from the penalty to touch), you normally get possession back and it forces the oppsition to score. We got the equivalent of a converted try out of the penalties, not to mention they took a couple of minutes off the game that Wakefield couldn't get possession. 2 league points was the most important thing, winning by 1 point or 100 points it didn't really matter. I've been at Wigan -v- Wakefield games before now where there were only a couple of penalties in it at half time (2003 at their place?), so it might have been a closer game than the final score suggested.

Saying all that, the penalty kick for goal near the end was a bit silly, that definitely should have been run instead of kicked to get more points on the board.

I don't pay money to watch people "eat up time" I pay to watch Rugby League.

Nobby was asked about the last penalty goal thing in the post-match interview on Sky. Basically, he said he didn't mind the 2 points but he was more concerned with field position - to keep down their end for the final few minutes instead of bag a couple more points but then have them kick off to us and be pressuring us at our end. Makes perfect sense to me, and is an example of how much progress the team and its on-field leaders have yet to make.

On the earlier penalty kicks I though they were spot on, and for the same reason Fraggle gives.

So do I, but I'd rather pay to watch us in Superleague rather than NL1 if running the ball were to cost us points and get us relegated! Plenty of time to watch rugby when we're not in danger of the drop.

Kicking for goal at every possible oppotunity really annoys me and even said that if Wigan went for another goal I would start booing them because it can get out of control, when do thet stop going for goal after 1 attempt, 2 attempts, 3 attempts, I don't want to go to the JJB and see Wigan kick penalty goal every time they get in the opposition half.

What if Wigan had lost by 4 points, would taking the 2 against 12 men been such a good idea.

The benefit of hindsight! Yes, it was a gamble, but what if we'd lost by 2 because we went for a try and messed it up? That's why the club employs coaches and captains, to make that kind of call. When you're bottom of the league, desperate for points, then safety-first surely must be the best choice, and an almost definite 2 points beats a possible 6 points everytime there, especially when you (almost certainly) get the ball back from the kick-off.

Easy to say when you have won, a lot more difficult when you have lost
