Ive just read this on wigan observer site. Im fuming i hope this doesnt mean we will miss out on home match against them. Its the biggest gate we have at home each season and we were due to get them at home for a good friday match this year. I wonder if it will affect our salary cap if we lose out on income

This news is about as surprising as the news that nighttime comes after daytime. And you're right, it was our turn to host the derby game next season so potentially there's a 25000 capacity game that's going to be in Cardiff instead of the JJB. I'm hoping the club have made sure to factor the financial impact of this into their discussions, the gate receipts would probably have been around £150,000 - £200,000 if it was at the JJB (a very rough guess, since I don't know much kids pay and how many kids tickets are sold; if all 25000 at the last home derby were paying £14 it would have totalled £350,000 so a figure less than that is appropriate).

Good Friday is April 6th, giving a full month between the 2 possible fixtures. We played away last Good Friday, so we should get a home game this season, and the Cardiff fixture should be the second meeting, thus being one of Saints home games.
Do we play Saints 3 times this year? As I recall it, teams finishing 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th play each other 3 times, with one extra fixture, and all the even numbered teams play 3 times, as we finished 8th, we would be in the even section, Saints finished top so they are in the other section.

I think SKY and the RFL would like a Wigan v Saints match at the JJB... with us hopefully being a top 6 team again challenging saints with hopefully a better team... in front of a massive crowd.
The RFL wont miss out on a SKY match showing 25,000 fans would they? Its either that or Wakefield v Catalans wth 3,000.

Dont forget the club kept telling us season ticket prices are reduced for the 2007 season. This is because there is one less game at home not because the club became generous, the club have known about this all along. Prices per game are actually higher.

Assuming the Good Friday fixture isn't binned in favour of this game instead. Tradition seems to be important to many people in RL, but ultimately if the league says a game is moved then they're the ones calling the shots. And from your calculation we would only play each other twice, so that's one game at Cardiff, one game at the Safari Park, and none at the JJB (until those Challenge Cup balls mysterious come out with Wigan vs St Helens at the JJB..., not that I'm cynical!)

According to the rumour mill. Leeds will play Bradford, Hull will play Hull KR (I think that is truly below the belt after how long East Riding has had to wait to get derby matches) and the grand finale on the last day will be Wigan v Saints.
I just hope we are compensated adequately financially.
