Wigan Warriors will be offering fans a Great Night Out at their Super League 'Home Opener' against Warrington Wolves on Friday night.

Headlining the pre-match entertainment will be top girl group Diamond who feature TV star Carley Stenson who plays Steph Dean in Hollyoaks. Diamond will be performing a mixture of cover songs and there own material and come to the JJB Stadium after two sell-out nights the Monaco Ballroom in Hindley in December raising a five figure sum for charity.

Also performing will be highly renown international tenor Laurence Robinson who will provide an dramatic build up to kick off before the teams take to the field to a spectacular firework display off the stadium roof.

Speaking on behalf of Diamond, Carley Stenson said:

“Hello from diamond! We’d just like to say how excited and nervous we are about Friday… but we can’t wait! We are all Warriors fans and have watched many games at the JJB in the past but now to be a part of it is unbelievable and really exciting. Bring it on!”

Great, the usual tenor singing the usual classics that we heard at Leeds and whatnot last year, over and over again.

I wonder how many times we'll see Elvis this season home and away.

Not forgetting the Blues Brothers, who must surely now include cousins, nephews, and other relatives given they perform so often that they need to be in several places at the same time... Or maybe they use lookalikes instead? :doz: :D

I think I could do without hearing Nessun Dorma yet again, it does get a bit tedious after the 10th rendition of the season.

Abide with me

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

Come not in terrors, as the King of kings,
But kind and good, with healing in Thy wings;
Tears for all woes, a heart for every plea.
Come, Friend of sinners, thus abide with me.

I need Thy presence every passing hour.
What but Thy grace can foil the tempter's power?
Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless;
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.
Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me.

Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes;
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee;
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

*sniff*

Brings back the memories of Old Wembley.

I didn't realise it had all those words! Every time I've heard it at Cup finals it seemed as if the words were "Abide with me. Mumble mumble mumble mumble etc, Abide with me". I'm a heretic when it comes to traditions so have to say the song has no meaning for me at all...!

It has several more verses but i've cut it down. I think there was only 2 or 3 verses at Wembley.

It's always amazed me how a funeral song is sung at a great sporting event. Still, it is a fond memory of Wembley. I still prefer Jerusalem though, should be our national anthem rather than singing about the queen. We've hardly got a rousing National Anthem with a lot of patriotism in it have we.
