After last season where we saw Kevin Brown play loose forward - who can blame him!

Joking aside; if Mo really had any influence over Noble and team selection, then he wouldn't have to say anything in the WEP - he'd just tell Noble and be done with it.

Likewise; if (as we all hope) he doesn't have any influence then talking in the WEP is doing little other than creating column inches about the club. Furthermore it gets a new exciting import talked about and hopefully motivates him to deliver on the expectation (not that he should need any).

Either way it seems largely irrelevant. Bailey played centre in Australia, has been brought in as a centre. We have a surplus of 2nd rows and as it now appears that McAvoy will not be staying and Gleeson is out on loan (not sure about Goulding?) it is a pretty safe bet that Bailey will be partnering the eternally under-achieving donkey that is DV in the centres - so saying that Bailey is playing centre is a bit like saying that he hopes Barrett will play stand off.

I was annoyed by this story too, but mainly because I'd recently read Mike Gregory's account of Lindsay meddling with his coaching decisions (not that MG's completely neutral when it comes to our chairman but...)

I honestly think he would have retired by now if the last two seasons hadn't been so poor. My guess is that he's staying on to protect his erm... legacy. Maybe he'll choose to go when the club wins some silverware.

calm down people! noble picks the team. thats why it took so long for the signings to be announced. noble was in austrailia and the club had to wait for his return before officialy announcing the players. maurice is entitled to his opinion just as we are. weather noble takes any notice is another thing.

So you want him to keep out of squad selection and continue with the overall running of the club! Is squad selection not part of runnning the club? :conf:
I take it you are new to this club and don't know about all the hard work and commitment Mo has put into this club over the years.

Keep up the good work Mo :)

lindsay is entitled to his opinions.however he shouldnt make comments on individual players and where they should play.this is purely down to noble who clearly knows a players strenghs and how to get the best out of them.by talking publicly lindsay is giving the impression that he influences team affairs or am i being naieve.

Personally I don't think any coach at Wigan has had full control over the team, defiantly not since I start watching Wigan and perhaps before that to.

Millward was meant to have full control over the team yet if you look at the player brought in it doesn't add up. Richards and Calderwood were brought in during the same season I think Millward wanted Calderwood as a winger and Lindsey wanted Richards, instead of not signing Richards Maurice refused to back down and told Millward Richards had to play at centre. There were also rumours about Lindsey refusing Millwards request to release Denis Moran earlier on in the season.

I think Lindsey is now starting to do the same with Noble, I think Bailey is another Lindsey signing as again he doesn't actually fit into our squad, he is a second row/loose forward who can play centre, what Wigan really need is an out and out centre. I think Noble would have preferred to bring in some forwards, he has always seemed the type of coach who like to build a club around a big pack of forwards, probably due to his back ground as a forward.

This is all speculation of course only people actually involved will know what goes on between them coach and chairman but I think there is alot of evidence suggesting interference by Lindsey. I think because Lindsey got a lot of credit for going out and getting good players when Wigan had success, then it went down hill, he will keep interfering until he looks like some sort of rugby genius again.

I can't wait for the season to start, and one of the reasons is that in the absence of any real action to talk about some people's rumourmongering and/or paranoia levels reach ridiculous heights.

The Wigan Evening Post needs a Wigan Warriors story to print, 6 days a week. The club drip-feeds what it has at the moment. Sometimes this is a quote or two from a player, sometimes (but not often recently due to other commitments) it's some comment from the head coach, sometimes it's a recycled, old story from the club website, sometimes Mo gives them a quote (like this week, when Nobby and the players are away) and sometimes Pete Aspinall has a look on here or elsewhere and writes a story about "rumours abound that [insert ridiculous rumour of your choice]".

It's that simple. That's the way the media work.

Anyone who thinks it's out of order for the chairman of the club to hope a new signing does well in the position he's been bought to play in is being at best unreasonable and at worst paranoid. Do you seriously think Stains fans would be annoyed if, say, McManus says he hopes Gidley is a success for them at centre in place of Jamie Lyon this year?

How do you know that he was brought into the squad to play centre, if you read the articles on the Wigan official site Noble even says that he is not sure where to play Bailey and will look at his training before making any decision, this is probably why no squad numbers have been announced because they still have to decide who gets 4. Some people have suggest Bailey was only ever brought in as a utility player like McAvoy was but the signing of Fielden etc might have stopped Wigan getting the centre they actually wanted.

If Lindsey has said anything about where Bailey plays then isn't that undermining Noble, Noble has said he will wait and see if Bailey will play centre is Noble comes back and decides he is a second rower then Lindsey has put him in an awkward situation do you go with what he decided or go with the guy paying your wages. Even if this has all been misquoted there is still some truth somewhere in there and Lindsey should just keep he mouth shut especially at the start of an important season for Wigan.

Lindsay has in the past interfered with the team selection in a big way, he then tried to distance himself from his very big mistakes he made and announced that he does not have any dealings with the team selection and will not in the future influence the team in any way what so ever.

He took time out to state this on many occasions only last season.

Why before the start of the new season and taking into account the sensitivity around his involvement in team selection or were a player should play does he feel to announce were a player should play. All announcements should come from the coach in most instances especially when a new signing arrives.

A clever man would not put himself back in the spot light like Lindsay has unless he still craves for attention.

Quite simply IMO he will never let go of trying to run the team and I see a fallout between Noble and Lindsay in the future, and yes I will tell you “I told you so”
