I know it was his first proper game but Thomas is like another MOran. Bring back Danny Orr who is said to have murdered Saints last night!
It's no good Saints losing if that is all we have to be happy about, so it didn't improve the mood when I heard that Orr had scored one and set up one.
Last season I posted on here that all Dobson was really doing were the basics to a good standard. However, we seem incapable of finding anyone else to do it. Putting a kick into space rather than down a player's throat is worth 20 yards every time if someone can just manage that.
Paul Deacon is never going to cut through a team, but we need someone like him for his kicking game.
A Saints fan I know used to complain that they would have to outscore us by 2 tries to win when we had Frano Botica. Looks like the reverse is true now.

i thought leuleui was poor- looked like a rabbit in headlights when he got the ball and didnt he give away two interceptions or was it just the one? he is a good tackler but im not convinced he is creative whilst not seeming to be good at the basics. guess its too early to tell though.
fielden looked very slim i thought- maybe all his summer problems have taken their toll on him.
NOBLE OUT PLEASE- YOU'VE HAD TIME AND NOW MY PATIENCE HAS RUN OUT!
IT'S ONE THING TO LOSE, IT'S ANOTHER TO PLAY DIRE AND BORING RL AND THEN LOSE!

Chris, to get fluent attacking rugby requires practice, repetitive practice, players knowing in their sleep where they wwill be for each tackle in that set. Tonight, the halves did not know where they should be and nobody else did. It will take time.
I personally thought you could see Barrett has that bit of extra class compared to run of the mill halfbacks.
I'm not talking about fluent attacking rugby, I'm talking about so called pro's at least lining out and providing runners and dummy runners. Having a new half back pairing has no bearing on that at all, not in the slightest.
As for Barret, I agree, but he didn't have any runners, if that contunues Barret will be easily marked out of the game.

I am probably not in the best of moods having just got back being stuck on car park 3 for an hour but I thought we were absolute garbage for the entire 80 mins.
I don't think there was one Wigan player who got the better of his opposite number. Not one. Wire even lost their stand off and Morley and we still couldn't score.
The best team won on the night no doubt about it and while it is only the first game several things stand out that are IMO going to define our season for the worse.
First of all Feka was used pretty much like he was last season. Unfortunately although O'Carroll has played himself into next weeks 17 he isn't as good as Logan. So we need Feka to be capable of more than he apparently is. If he can't our "two experienced props" becomes "one experienced prop out of form" for far too long during a game. Our pack will get beaten far too often if we have to play Feka like that.
Next we need a goal kicker. It isn't Richards fault he has been landed the job but we are going to have to score a darn sight more tries than we look capable of to win many games.
Millard is just too slow. Why he played for as long as he did given our complete inability to set up a move or break I don't know.
We also look looked a yard off the pace and that was most disappointing. Very slow and that id where I thought we would have the edge on Warrington.
I don't think the idea it's a new half back pairing cuts the mustard as an excuse. Barrett is supposed to be class and apart from to excellent field kicks and a couple of chip kicks he did nothing IMO. I can't remember him taking on the line or running and doing a side step. A very disappointing individual performance from him.
Lulu was a one trick Pony near the line with the gruber kick. Time after time. If it was due to lack of runners well Barrett was supposed to be one and Lockers another. Where were they?
I am not optimistic based on what I saw tonight at all.
Dave
Cannot understand the bit about O'Carroll he was the best prop on the Wigan side today. Feka did absolutely nothing again tonight as did Fielding so should you not be comparing these 2 props to Logan not O'Carroll. Nobody seems to comment too much on Feka a game lasts 80 min he is on the pitch for about 15min waste of time
IMO Barret was our best back always talking trying to get the rest of the team organised (it’s a pity he does not have much outside & inside of him).
IMO Lulu was crap
Agree with you 100% about Millard
I don't think that Ashton was THAT bad. He made a couple of crucial tackles in defence, which was his main problem last year.
You cannot make quick darts up the middle of the pitch, in the weather as it was last night, it is impossible.
If anyone, I think Ashton always looked like the player who was on the shoulder of the ball carrier, ready to take any pass that was available.
We can credit him for that and his improved defense I suppose. Just watching Ashton when he made Sullivan knock on at the end, that was great marker work from Ashton, something that I don't think we saw him dow last year. Good work Chris
By the way, I think that last night was THE quietest game that Stuart Fielden has EVER had
i was shocked when millard started n the game time he got, bailey looked ok n could be very good with a strong offload, barrett will get better n he did well, lulu started well....seems to have the typical maori attitude tho.
we looked like a team that were never gona make a clean break and looked short of ideas close to the line.
IMO Millard is to slow at getting the ball away from actin half, gave two interceptions away, did nothing from from dummy half ,was to preictable.Richards has started this season the same as he started last season CRAP.Barrett looked as though he's come to play & not just come for a big payday & will improve as he gets used to playing wiyh LULU.Hock & O'carroll
were both oustanding.Baily looked solid in defence.I thought Lockers ran well & tried hard.We looked flat in attack and had no ideas. But it was first game played in bad conditions & i think things will get better.I didnt rate Warrington that much and thought we made them look better than they were.
I have to admit to being surprised at all the doom and gloom around the board; I really didn't think we were all that bad. Warrington played the conditions better than we did, true, but at the end of the day we only lost on goal kicks. Lots of touches in attack that with a bit more luck could easily have come off, and were often due to just small errors in timing, that will get better as the new guys get more used to each other.
Ashton: solid in defence and showed a few sparks in attack, despite the conditions.
Calderwood: always trying, one of the few to look dangerous.
Bailey: showed a lot of promise, lovely offload to Calderwood in the corner that on another day would have been a walk-in if he'd held on.
Withers: steady without looking threatening
Richards: big disappointment
Leuluai: mediocre, but will get better
Barret: showed lots of classy touches, including a 40-20 with what I think was his first touch.
Fielden: invisible
Millard: rubbish
Feca: as mentioned, wasn't on long enough
Hock: outstanding
Fletcher: worked hard, as always
O'Loughlin: solid in defence, lovely kick for Calderwood's try.
Higham: should have been on from the start - I'd like to see him on for the full 80 and lose Millard.
O'carroll: outstanding, joint MoM with Hock for me.
Hansen: looked dangerous when he came on, but seemed to fade.
DV: not as bad as he was last season, but I'd rather have had Prescott out there, especially in those conditions.
I think Millard, Fielden and Barret, were targeted out of the game. Barret looked very promising and i think he will give us some very different attacking options, looked like he wanted to win and i saw him shouting on the screen a few times showing some passion. I think he needs that support play with player backing him up after a few games i think he will become very dangerous.

we played rubbish today. o'carroll was leading the pack and i fort he played out of his skin. i think he set an example today. and he gave morley a black eye very promising for the future
We were beaten by the better side on the night they have has a settled halfback pairing and that was the difference between the two sides. Forget the forward battle that we were beaten it wasnt the massive differennce that people have made out.
Well done Warries but beware the return fixture.
