Lockers
Lockers. Don't anyone complain again about the performance of this kid. for me he was the oustanding player in the Catalan game. Apart from his normal huge amount of defensive work, he had a hand in the first try, made the break and put Bailey in with a peach of a reverse pass for the second and scored the third himself. An oustanding performance and should have been awarded the man of the match award. Great performance from all and, despite the monsoon, a very enjoyable game from both sides.
Re: Lockers
Hopefully Barret's been telling him where he wants him to run and will put him into a lot more gaps as the season progresses and they get more familiar.
Re: Lockers
Totally agree. Lockers by a country mile was our best player on saturday.GGCSENSECT posted:

And if he has a poor game in future why not? Is he immune from criticism from now on because he had a good game?GGCSENSECT posted:

I am pleased he had a good game but don't confuse issues over his captaincy with issues over how he plays as a player. Many can't see the difference.

Re: Lockers
There is them that trust Noble's judgement and them that don't. If Noble was not happy about Locker's roll would he not have changed it? What our captain has now is players to back him. The shepard cant do his job if the sheep don't flock together. 13 individuals don't make a team. Maybe this year we have a team. It is Noble's decission to build it round Lockers :eusa4:DaveO posted:And if he has a poor game in future why not? Re: Lockers
I don't want to start yet another debate about his captaincy as we have enough threads about those. I am merely pointing out a lot of people react to criticisms of his captaincy as criticism of him as a player and vice versa as well.highland convert posted:

The post I responded to suggested that by that one game Lockers had answered his critics who do have an issue over his play as opposed to his captaincy. In my opinion Lockers needs a season on top form recapturing the form he showed prior to his injury. With Barrett leading the way he has a chance to do that IMO and we we saw some of that v Les Cats this is a good thing.
Oh and by the way, its a poor shepherd who loses his sheep

Re: Lockers
Hallelujah for GGCSENSECT
He was awesome v Cats. His pass for Bailey was fantastic BUT to pick up that knocked down pass at speed at that stage in the match and in those conditions to win the match was sublime.
At least Dave O thinks he can play, some do not even do that

I think he meant don't complain unfairly about it.. obviously if he has a bad game we should criticise him for that performance.DaveO posted:And if he has a poor game in future why not? Is he immune from criticism from now on because he had a good game?GGCSENSECT posted:

However, I agree that some people on here seem to let their initial opinions of a player cloud their judgement of his performances, and that's what I don't like about the whole issue.

Re: Lockers
if you look back of all the great players they have all been in great teams , you just have to look at jamie lyon last season .
if your a great player and your team is undergoing some lets say back room disruption, i don't care how good you are , you cannot and will not be at your best .
when wigan were at there best there was a few good players who became great players just because they were in that team .in there hayday i could have coached them .
so i say lets give em all a bit of slack lets see how they get on , if its not happening mid season well lets say pnb will be in his element

The Lyon example is an interesting one because although it is early days yet it appears Lyon was one big reason why Saints have been so good in recent seasons. Now he's gone they seem to have gone off the boil a bit.right cross posted:

I also remember the great Wigan teams of the 80's and 90's with characters like Edwards, Gregory and Hanley in the side and the back room goings on with that lot were legendary. It has been said quite a few of the team didn't like each other but liked losing even less!when wigan were at there best there was a few good players who became great players just because they were in that team .in there hayday i could have coached them .
