Whellen & Lindsay Made promise

Lets hope they keep to it. Does anyone remember Whellen saying if they don’t win a cup in four years they both will go!

Can anyone remember how long ago that was?

Can’t be too long now!

Almost certainly. Without Whelan who is a rugby fan the football club would have us out in a shot (ruining our pitch blah blah blah) Be careful what you wish for it may come true, no ground no big money backer

Whelan's not the only man with money in the northwest of England. And the football team have no say over who else uses the stadium. If we did pass to a new owner, there is nothing to say that this new owner couldn't negotiate a deal with Whelco Holdings, or JJB Stadium Ltd or whatever the DW company that operates the stadium is called, so that we can continue to play there. Money talks, and given that we continue to get big crowds despite our performances in recent seasons then there's potentially a lot of useful income going into the stadium company.

Starting a thread like this, WW, makes me worry that you are not quite as clued in as I thought.

Even if Whelan was prepared to sell the club - which he certainly wasn't last time (and I know that for a fact because I'm close to someone who was involved in trying to buy the club) - the only way we could continue at the JJB would be to pay him rent, in which case he'd still have an element of control over us.

Few big money buyers would be prepared to tolerate that (and if they were, I doubt they'd be of strong enough stuff for our purposes). A new owner would therefore be in the position of having to build a new stadium - not impossible if he was rich enough - but probably it would be outside Wigan borough, as I can't imagine Wigan Council, who partly own the JJB, giving permission for another stadium if it meant the current one was only used half the year.

Unfortunately, we're between the devil and the deep blue sea here. While it's plausible that Lindsay might retire, we are stuck with Whelan as our owner for as long as he wishes to be. And if he suddenly desides to unload us - perhaps because our crowds are dwindling badly, or we get relegated - then it's anyone's guess what'll happen to us.

Fair point but can you name any of these money men? As you say money talks and if whoever is in charge starts to think that the rugby is having a negative effect there is more money in football unfortunately. Just look at this season and the stakes that they are playing for, £50 million has been thrown about being the cost of relegation.

Problem is DW is giving us the finance to be a top side again.

Problem is hes firing coaches at an alarming rate. Now MO for me must go hes running us to the ground. He might be pasionate about the club but so is thousands of us. Does not make you a good chairman.

MO needs to go more than DW. Also if DW does go the lease in the name of wigan warriors for the ground would still be binding id guess.
