If that's so, how did the likes of Watford, Plymouth, Blackburn, City and Middlesborough reach the last eight in this year's FA Cup?

But the latics compete with 19 other teams for a top 10 place. So in probability, you had a 50% chance of finishing in the top 10.
The 1/4 final of FA is nothing spectacular, even Plymouth may not think much of it other than extra income from the Watford fans, they wont certainly brag about it in 30 years time will they?
