The attack Dave. For some reason we seemed to decide to try to pass our way out of our own half. It is a high risk strategy and one we simply do not have the players for. So we made very few yards and kept turning over possession. In defence, we were awful, our matching up was dire. So basically the attack was non existent because we never did the fundamentals to get to that part of the game.
I have to say this, given a scenario of limited possession and territory, anybody criticising the halfbacks displays a lack of knowledge and understanding.

Re: Barrett
The half backs were on the back foot most of the game and that was down to Wigan being beaten in the pack quite easily.cpwigan posted:

The other week I was starting to believe Veivers about us worrying too much about a pack with only Feka and Fielden as experienced props but today was a wake up call. Our pack got battered and especially off the bench so yes the half backs had a hard time of it. I still think Lulu had the better game of the two though.

Re: Barrett
Not enough Wiganers in the team....Ashton should have started due because he would have wanted it more than Withers due to the rivalry.
Cant blame Treant he cant beat Saints on his own.

Re: Barrett
Barrett was obviously injured today and for a 5 minute spell struggled to get in the line during this period he went out on to the wing. he is still carrying a calf injury and needs rest unfortunatley he isnt going to get it
Re: Barrett
I thought that we let the occasion get to us. When Richards scored the first try I hoped it would help settle the nerves.
Half the team seemed too nervous to try any other than one out football - the other half tried to win the game with a single pass. Klein's inability (or unwillingness) to make stains stand square meant that dummy half running was a waste of time.
In defence we were guilty of ball watching and not marking up correctly. Once stains broke the line most of the players just jogged back.
Hock had his usual brain explosion and whilst doing some good things couldn't control his temper which cost us a lot of territory
Barrett didn't play that well - however stains marked him out of the game.

totally agree, Barrett is not the only one lacking in effort you look at the team as on the whole, there are only about 8 players in the starting 17 that deserve their place, the rest should never have been signed they have been brought in at the expence of promising young talent who want to play for wigan, what have we ended up with overrated, overpaid, posers, I know people will critise my thoughts and debate is welcome, but look at it from my side if we had retained the youngsters we have released in the last 2 to 3 years and what they have acheived look at the squad we would have, instead of going for the quick fix every year, look at our league standing it has got lower and lower every year. Had my rant off to leeds hopefully they can prove me wrong

Anyone ever seen his reaction when the oposit team score? He`s very gutted and dissapointed!
He also 99% of the time claps to the fans when walking back to the position afta a try.
This lad has the pride that any Wigan born lad shoud have! Not bad for an over-seas player!
Keep it up little LuLu![]()
Re: Barrett
And the reverse of that is an assumption that Wigan-born players or those brought through the ranks would always be better than imported players who "don't understand what Wigan-Saints games are all about", usually when a youngster has been released and his brought-in replacement is not performing well. It's a funny idea, but then I'm not a Wiganer either so what do I know about anything?!Doug Stand posted:
There's a bit of romancing goes on with the fans and a misconception that Wigan players have or don't have pride in the jumper.
