Wigan U21s v Wakefield
Wigan U21s v Wakefield
Wigan under 21's beat Wakefield 48 - 4. if my mathematics/memory is correct. Wakefield started brightly and took the lood with a very well taken try. Albeit, Wigan had already bombed two try scoring opportunities. What looked like a promising contest turned into one way traffic as the fitter and stronger Wigan U21s gradually took Wakefield apart. Indeed, the winning margin would have been greater had Nicky Stanton uncharacteristically left his kicking boots at home. Thankfully, his general play was excellent and he scored 2 well taken tries in the first half.
Unfortunately controversy surrounds the standard of officiating on view. First may I refute any allegation that Mike Binder was the touchie waving the red flag. Similar in shape and size, our Mike is slightly larger. Indeed, the legend that is Mike Binder was in attendance. Whatsmore as you would expect from a WWI veteran he came with his very own flask. I fell asleep during his endless tales of trench foot etc.
Worse to come. The other touch judge was none other than Robjoenz. One could say Rob is on the first rung of the refereeing ladder to stardom although somone did describe him as a rung. Another wag commented that if he stood still and held his flag above his head he could get mistaken for a corner flag. Chants of cocktail stick could be heard amongst the Wigan faithful. Indeed, I can categorically deny that Rob will be starring as a Polish POW in the remake of Escape To Victory. He is totally dedicated to a career as a body double for Dennis Healeys eyebrows.
I believe nerves got the better of Rob and his eyesight was not as bad as the crowd stated. One elderly lady in the first half shouted I can hardly see anything these days but even I saw that was forward. I believe Rob needs to think of his positioning in future matches. He was too eager to get ahead of the ball carriers and if he kept in line with them he could spot forward passes better. His match concluded as it started with the Wakey players complaining the the final try was an fffin mile forward (it was too) Nevertheless, ROB could not be shaken and hid behind the corner flag.
Linzi in a biblical reinactment denied all association with Jesus Jones and hid in the car. Robjoenz was last heard tunneling an escape route from the shower / bath.
Your erthswhile reporter tried to instill some witty reportee with Robjoenz alas his shout of "Touchie your worse than Robjoenz" fell on deaf ears
Mike Binder was last seen negotiating with the burger bar van man for a discount on a left over 25 kilo of cheeseburgers.
Linzi will be applying for a Green Card

Absolutely brilliant! Having spent the match sat next to Linzi, who was frantically telling us all to "please don't embarass him!", I can say that Rob did well, even running on once or twice. I've no doubt the hundreds of photos that his better half took during the game will keep them amused for a while. We left the embarassing bit until the end when he got a standing ovation as he left the field. The poor guy didn't know where to look

As for the game, yet again, O'Carroll put in a Fielden-esque performance, and is surely destined for great things. The team played well after a shaky start and look good as a unit. Long may it continue.

I did hear a story at half time that Rob nearly got locked in the South Stand Bar owing to his never ending discussion of the momentum rule with a fellow train spotter.
Re: Wigan U21s v Wakefield
Apparently it was 46-4. I must have been mezmorised by daddy long legs jones unique running style.

The touch judge can only give a forward pass, if the ref asks him.cpwigan posted:

Rubbish, I sat in the stand, watching the game and was very proud of Rob.cpwigan posted:

If you think you could do any better, why don't you do a ref course and take it up. No, didn't think so.
