Next Years Team

Post by nathan_rugby »

Out of the 13 wigan players that generally start the match. Who out of them and the 4 subs are we going to have to replace to build consistancy and win the super league ?
1- Ashton out obv, woulnd mind briscoe.
2- Calderwood can stay put
3-vialeki out and promote goulding to starting 13
4-Bailey to 2nd row, yeaman hopefully to replace
5-richards to stay put
6-keep barret
7-keep lu lu
8-fielden keep him if he regains his quality
9- keep higham and promote mclorrum
10- keep feka
11-keep hock, vastly imroving
12-fletcher out and replaced by bailey
13- keep lockers unless sonny bill is available haha

get rid of millard, withers, vialki, fletcher and use youngsters o carrol, goulding, hansen, tomkins, mclorrum

He'll have recovered by next year. But he has had some bad injuries in his time at Bradford, they're bound to start catching up on him eventually.

ive given this thoguht so here goes:

1. Briscoe/Platt one is a former wiganner who reminds me of rads with his style of support. the other has showed promise this season with bulls and could be a handy signing.

2. keep caldderwood if he can get a decent centre inside him.
3. goulding or DV, give him an extension whatever on MUCH lower costs, see how he goes. maybe promote goulding to first team, have him swapping with DV, he's still only 18/19.
4. lets just sign an out and out centre, not a second row centre eg johnson, wild, bailey.... a fully established centre. saints have replaced lyon with gidley who is proving dangerous every week.
heres a list of who id consider:
Hape (dependant on qouta)
Gleeson (martin)
yeaman
atkins

any would suit me fine. We've bene linked with hape in the past. as we have Gleeson. Yeaman is out of contract i think. atkins is at wakefield :eh: and has shown some quality this season, wouldnt be to much either i presume.

5. Richards lets keep him.
6. Barrett, no comment there, his name says it all.
7. lueluia, im happy with him so far, decent defender, threatening in attack, needs to improve his kciknig game, short is great, long is suspect.

8. fielden, heres a tip stu, find some form yeah? we didnt sign you for 450,000 for you to walk into defenders and tumble onto the floor.
9. higham, i like him.
10. feka, awesome.
11. hock, cut out the pens and he could be GB.
12. bailey, move to second row, he is a second rower, not a fully established centre, he is a second rower. he suits that position. good strong tackler, good runner, takes the ball up, can offload, not short of pace.
13. o'loughlin.

now subs.

14. mcillorum, id like to see him given a chance, never seen him play but heard positives.
15. hansen or tomkins, any will do.
16. coley, he's a decent prop and just what we need, he could start or be used for impact. being linked with ryles to. any would do but of course ryles would mean that no hape.
17. o'carrol or prescott, o'carrol proving to be a good runner, much like feka in the way his legs dont stop pumping until someone grabs them. prescott, id like him to put size on if he wants to make it with the big boys.

that's about it really.

Realistically though, to be challenging for honours again there are some changes needed in our squad. Next years squad should not be consisting of players such as Vaeliki, Calderwood, Millard or Hansen. These players are simply not good enough.

Bailey is nothing more than a tackling machine and is a waste of a centre spot. And if he is to be kept in the squad it surely is to be in the second-row.

1. New Player (Briscoe) - Withers back-up.
2. New Player (Calvert?)
3. Goulding
4. New Player (Yeaman)
5. Richards
6. Barrett
7. Luileui
8. Fielden.
9. Higham
10. Feka
11. Bailey
12. Hock
13. O'Loughlin (Not as captain).

Subs (From):
14. New Prop (Coley?)
15. New Hooker
16. O'Carroll
17. Tomkins
18. Prescott
19. New Prop (Ryles?)
