Millard is a vital player to this squad. The 2 games away to Leeds he was outstanding. He might not be the quickest player at times but he reads the play well.Higham is class and quality and at times to quick, get off Millards back he doesnt deserve it!
Millard is past it. I don't deny he has the RL brain but if you could not see the difference when he came on for the last 15 mins on Saturday you must be blind.

He is not what we need and he gets far too much game time for his current skill level. He just has not got enough gas left in the tank and I don't just mean pace.

To say he is vital to the squad is ridiculous.

I will if you promise to wear your specs next time

You said Millard is vital to our team.

Barrett is an example of someone vital to our team. Millard could retire tomorrow and it would not be a problem. In fact it would improve it in my opinion.

I don't think that anyone doubts Millard's effort or heart, but there comes a time when a player needs to step aside gracefully.

It's no use us complaining about the salary cap, and how it penalises teams like us for having a strong youth set-up, and then signing players like Millard ( and Withers) who are not good enough anymore, and who are preventing younger players like McIllorum from tasting first team rugby.

We got Millard a few seasons past his best and as much as I would like him to do well I can not see it .

Play Micky all the game ,Hansen Tomkins Prescott and Ocarol on the bench or give Mclocrane a chance , this would be good for the club in the seasons to come.

Tomkins looks well worth a place on his brief appearance against HKR I was impressed , let our local young lads get some game time Millard unfortunately is not the future these lads are .

As I recall, didn't Nobby say he has a long term plan. Perhaps Millard and Withers have been brought in to give us some short term experience and he has long term plans for the youngsters. I think every team needs a mix of older experienced players and youthful exuberance and I am sure that over the coming seasons we will start to see some of these "fringe" players breaking into the 1st team.

When it comes down to it, Millard was offered a contract and whilst he has a Wigan shirt on his back, I for one will support him. :)

The problem is for these younger players to make it they need to be playing 1st team rugby. At the moment, only Prescott and O'Carroll, plus occasionally Goulding, are getting any first team rugby. The other kids are still waiting for their chance, and how long will they be prepared to wait? We've seen it before that they end up leaving if they don't play (Briscoe), and McIllorum's been on the fringes for quite a while now. When he does get the chance, it might take him months to adapt to the speed of 1st team rugby, when he could be getting some of that experience now playing for 20 minutes a game instead of us persisting with grandad for 35/40 minutes.

I am sure that is why they were brought but is that any reason to persist in playing them if they are not up too it? Isn't it obvious Millard is no longer able to play at a high enough level?

Fletcher is an example of an experienced player who can still cut it while adding experience although he does appear to be a bit less effective this year than last. Millard is an example of an experienced player who can no longer cut it. You are right to say a team needs a mix of youth and experience but the experienced players have still got to deserve their place in the side due to playing ability. If they have not got that ability any more their experience is of no use.

Did you say the same about Doc Murry? If we want to progress players like Millard need to be encouraged to retire.

i think we can safely say millard is past his best and if he went he wouldnt be missed that much iwould also like to say that the youngsters we have coming through we do not need to disrupte the team that much for next year meaning bring 1 or 2 key players in next year give the kids a run if the rfl do decide to alter quota system over the next 2 years we are sat in a nice position rather than trying to change our squad over a close season without to many disruptions to key areas

His passes are too flat, he doesn't know what players are going to do around him. Its no coincidence the majority of points were scored with higham on the field on Saturday. He may be an 'experienced' player but he's also a past his best player. We've got him for another season after this though havent we? What's wrong with mcallorum (sp) he's been mentioned in the same sentence as the first team for a couple of years now but he never gets his chance! He couldn't do any worse than Millard.
