Check this link first, to see why a number of high profile players ARE considering a move overseas, irrespective of any wages being offered. Do not be so quick to be so dismissive - ask yourself why has Craig Gower just "upped and left" Penrith.

Sounds like a ploy to negotiate a better contract (as LazyJ suggested) if you ask me, but I can be a very cynical person.

Just seen this on the Fox Sports Website. It seems people in Australia are convinced he is coming to Super League. The money quoted is very high, yet it seems Wigan aren't in with the highest bids!

"NEW South Wales star Matt King will sign a staggering British Super League deal worth more than $600,000 a season as the player drain to England continues to cause havoc in the NRL.

It is understood Melbourne Storm star King will officially announce his British deal on Monday week.

Already more than 80 former NRL players are playing in Britain's Super League - and officials yesterday admitted there is little they can do to stop the exodus.

Worryingly, the drain of Australia's Origin-level stars is only set to worsen with a new quota system in Britain next season.

While the total number of foreign players is set to be restricted, the quota of high-profile marquee imports in Super League will soon go up from three to five.

King has an option for next season with Melbourne but has privately decided to play the next four seasons in England.

He will wait until after Wednesday night's Origin match in Brisbane and the Storm's July 7 match against Souths in Gosford before revealing his future.

Had King announced his move before Origin, selectors may have overlooked him.

It is understood understands five British clubs are chasing King - Bradford, Wigan, Hull Kingston Rovers, Leeds and London.

The richest offer is worth a staggering $700,000 a season but King is looking at a lesser offer in the vicinity of $600,000 to join one of England's more powerful clubs, either Bradford or Wigan.

Player manager Steve Gillis said the NRL must introduce more concessions to keep the stars in Australia.

"There has to be some kind of concessions for clubs, including those that develop their own juniors, and the possibility of more concessions for long-serving players," Gillis said.

"The attraction of the English pound and other associated benefits clearly weigh heavily in convincing our stars to head overseas."

Storm chief executive Brian Waldron remains hopeful, but not confident, of re-signing King. "We'd love him to stay," he said.

"But the money in England isn't comparable to the money we can offer in Melbourne or anywhere else in the NRL."

Earlier in the week, King said: "I've got an inkling of what I want to do ... but it's the biggest decision of my life."

But Parramatta chief executive Denis Fitzgerald said the NRL was powerless to act.

"It is unfortunate but there is little we can do," Fitzgerald said.

"The answer isn't to match them (Super League clubs) dollar for dollar, because English clubs seem to have an endless supply of money. And the salary cap in the NRL must stay."

NRL chief executive David Gallop agreed with Fitzgerald.

"Short of being able to increase the salary cap to $7 million - which isn't feasible - and get the tax laws changed, there's no easy solution," Gallop said."

I can't see how Bradford can afford him. Who have they got leaving at the end of the season that would free up enough salary cap space for his wages. I think we are in with a chance, especially becuase two of our biggest earners are leaving at the end of the season.
