My first match was against Oldham in 1985, Frank Myler was coaching them back then, and they still had a (very) outside chance of the title at that point!

Wigan won, (naturally) 28 - 2, with two long range Henderson Gill trys, been following them ever since.

Strange, but it was an old Leigh RL Colt, who first got me into the Rugby (Thanks for that Lee Smith - wherever you are!).

We used to go to college and catch the old 32 bus route that took you past Central Park (before the Riverway Scheme). He hated Wigan and always gave the ground his "salute". This started my initial interest in the game.

Started following them, home and away, since 1985. Missing virtually no matches at all! (I was there in Milwaukee and on that brilliant night in Brisbane for the World Cup Challenge in 1994) Only later, with other demands on me, have I started to miss any away fixtures - shame really, but priorities - you know!!

The best form of defence is attack!!

Out of the black and into the red, remember you don't get anything for two in a bed!!

I've still got the programme from my first match (and thousands of others). THink it was Batley in the Lancashire Cup in 1986.

I remember going to Hull in that infamous challenge cup tie where we literally froze. Remember being asleep as soon as we got back to the car wrapped in a picnic blanket... I remember a lot of late 80s games but being young I cant pinpoint an exact one but definately been almost everywhere watching Wigan in th'old days. I have proof I was at the Offiah 10-try game :D which im proud of, can say i was there

wigan beat hunslet 20 - 16 in 1965.wigan were actually 2 nil up before the ball was even in play.until the 1985 final this was recognised as the greatest wembley final, although i have the match on dvd and the game looks slow by todays standards.

Old timer myself. First watched Wigan in 1960 with first challenge cup final in 1961. Agree with comments about Hunslet game. I've seen it on DVD and it seems static towards super league. Been to around 25 challenge cup finals - not all with Wigan of course. Greatest game in 46 years? Beating Saints 27 - 0 and again at Murrayfield when underdogs were highlights. Wigan v Hull 1985 final plus many more great games but my stand out has to be Wigan v Manly 1987 - you had to be there to experience it. Absolutely amazing atmosphere and brilliant win with no foreigners in the side.

What are the little flags called which the captains hand over before the game? I've got the Wigan one from the manly match.
