Re: Get Lindsey out campai...
All the suggestions that the signing of Fielden and the failure to unload players quickly enough was the reason have been shown to be well off the mark.
It seems clear that if we had stayed with the rabble that started the season, we would still have been over the cap and relegated with it.
The incompetence required to do that is of breathtaking proportions. This club has absolutely no chance of achieving anything again with ML in charge.

That's what we would like to find out. At the moment the facts are not fully clear, and so everyone is jumping to conclusions. There's a big question about why the RFL apparently agreed the signing of Fielden if they knew we could not afford him without doing something fairly major (£200k is, after all, not a small amount).smudge273 posted:
Whether the club agree or disagree is irrelevant the fact remains we cheated and have been punished for cheating end of argument. there is no ambiguity over £200k is there or was it the ball boys salary ??

If that was all lies, then Nobby's implicated as well, and RFL didn't deny any of it.From BBC Sport:
Wigan hit back over salary claims
Friday, 23 June 2006
Wigan have rubbished suggestions from two rival clubs that the signing of Stuart Fielden could mean them breaking Super League's strict salary cap.
Both Wakefield and Castleford expressed fears that the transfer would mean the £1.7m wage limit being breached.
But Wigan chairman Maurice Lindsay insisted: "Wild speculation always comes up when Wigan sign a player.
"We are in control of our salary cap and have advised the Rugby Foobtall League of our exact situation."
coach Brian Noble said: "The acquisition of Stuart is within the rules of the RFL.
"We refute any accusations made by anyone within the Rugby League fraternity."
Warriors chairman Lindsay added: "Comments from two of our relegation rivals are, I assume, in respond to leading questions.
"We are well aware of our salary cap requirements and we are working within those requirements.
"Stuart Fielden will not be the highest paid player in the game although it is a very good contract and obviously better than the amount he earned at Bradford."

Re: Get Lindsey out campai...
As I've posted elsewhere, whatever happened in 2006 was done long before the results of the 2005 salary cap audit were announced. By then it was too late to change anything for 2006, and given we tried to claim we had not overspent in 2005, it's not quite a case of people not learning their lessons.standishwarrior posted:cpwigan posted:
It is far too easy to shout and scream for heads.
We need answers and we need the full story as to why the club and RFL disagree to such a large amount over the cap figure allocated to Wigan RLFC.
it seems quite simple to me cp.. every team knows the salery cap and wigan have overspent it by 200K
its happened two years on the trot now you would have thought doris would have learnt the first time we got deducted points!

PROTEST!!!!!
Re: Get Lindsey out campai...
No it is not simple, clear cut. Some of you may like it to be BUT the reality is that the RFL seem to have no idea how manage anything.
We signed Fielden. It was cleared by the RFL. Deferred payments must have been common knowledge then. The RFL that includes a legal department drafted an illegal salary cap document. We have been found guilt on breaking the spirit of the cap. If there is no rule regarding deferred payments then how can we break that rule? If the cap failed to accomodate such strategies then that is down to the RFL. They can close that strategy off subsequently by amending its regulations BUT it cannot apply something retrospectively.
As an example. Your driving down a road with no speed limit. You crash into another car and are taken to court. Would you accept a verdict that said guilty of driving too fast because your speed was not in the spirit of good road safety. :exc:
