Calderwood
Calderwood
I've been a big supporter of Calderwood over the past 2 seasons ans defended him when his performances have not been up to scratch simply because like Fielden you don't become a poor player overnight and his record for Leeds was fantastic BUT I now ask the question how many more times is he going to bomb tries with the line at his mercy when all he needs to do is go low and slide into the corner instead of stepping back inside? At 31 - 24 yesterday with still 10 mins remaining he once again did just that, got tackled into touch and from the resulting scrum and next set of 6 Crocker put the final nail into our coffin. I really do believe if he had showed more guts or more of a wingers skill we would have gone on to produce a great come back and would now be booking our Wembley tickets. Before you all start talking about the try he did score, did anyone else notice how much hard work he made of it, a couple of years ago he would have strolled over but it seemed hard work, he has defo last pace yet he is still relativley young so the question must be asked WHY? I'm sorry if it looks like I'm pointing the blame at one player, I'm certainly not, Hock again was poor, Fletcher was trying too hard, Feka went missing as did quite a few others but I realy did see that as a defining moment. One think in Calders defence though is that a decent centre wouldn't go a miss.
Re: Calderwood
Said exactly the same at the time, why didn't he go low under the tackle in the corner. He couldn't guarentee scoring, but staying on his feet was only ever going to result in him going into touch.
Also the try he scored, first thing he did was to look inside to pass, not the wingers instinct of someone link Offiah who would back himself everytime. When he did go past, he was about to ground the ball before thinking, better try to make the angle easier.
Not impressed with his performance, but there again not impressed with anyone's performance. so can't single him out.

Re: Calderwood
I think he gat that fed up waiting for a decent pass on his side of the pitch he switched wings.
He was then amazed to have the ball with open space in front of him. He had forget what to do next.
He goes to the left
He goes to the right
He came to Wigan
We've made him look shite
Thats the fact of it.

Re: Calderwood
Maybe he has lost a bit of confidence in himself. When going for the long range try he maybe thought, am i going to make it, dont think so.
And to be honest i have never seen calderwood score a try were he has outmuscled the opposition and squeezed into the corner like the same try tame toupu scored and the style of trys gareth raynor does.
Calderwoods trys at leeds came from the space outwide he had created by the centre attracting players towards him.

You cant keep saying if he would have scored.
If the ball didnt bounce funny off the kick then richards would have had it and cats wouldnt have scored.
Thers plenty things to say like that. You cant just assume thigs.

It is assuming to say that if he did dive to the corner he would have scored.
Its just a lot of IFS and BUTS.
If such a body would have done this instead of that.
But we would have won if .
DOesnt work out.

He is showing signs of being towards the autumn of his career, He was absolutely kn***ered scoring his try yesterday, and steps in on most occasions going towards the line.AndyLaw posted:

Re: Calderwood
Mark Calderwood is planning to extend his stay at Wigan.
The winger has an option of a third year in his contract, which he wants to take up.
His agent David Howes told the Wigan Observer: "The option is with us and we have indicated to Wigan that Mark would like to take that up. He's very happy at the club."
i'am confused.does this mean that nobby or the club have no say in whether they want calderwood to stay an extra season?or can nobby say no thanks

Re: Calderwood
I thought he looked over weight, don't know if there trying to beef him up a bit but it's done nothing for his pace, fitness and confidence. At Leeds he was running in tries from 20 Metre re starts...now he looks knackered running to the 20 Metre line !!
He didn't fancy running that ball ht elenght of the field and you could see why..he was blowing out his a@#e at the end of it. Terrible demise in a young player, gotta agree with the earlier posted rhyme.
