One aspect I am perplexed by. Apparently, ML is going to remain a director of the Latics. :conf:

I to was there on Sunday, not good viewing from a Wigan supporters point of view, I didn't boo,(I was too dumbstruck). IMO 100% the players and Nobby's fault.
Thank you Mr Lindsay for your efforts to make this club great again in your second tenure but Wigan have never got up to speed with the Super League era. Whose fault that is I don't know, but, I'm most grateful to have been a witness to your first
stint, along with the other gang of four those memories will never fade.
Right, now to the main reason I'm on line, has anyone got any idea as to what Welco's involvement in all this will be?
As I see it they will still be the company that runs the ground no matter who takes over the rugby side of things, that is, having the profits from the bar, confectionary, PIES, programmes, why, even down to the advertising on the back of the Golden Gamble Tickets, which Welco will own anyway. This is not a sleight at Mr Whelan, (I'm on the fence with that one), but a comment at the turnover that the club will produce once all the profits have been taken out, the cost of attending matches will certainly go up, probably to counteract the price of 'latic's tickets going down. Welco, maybe want more money for rent of the ground? Rugby prices going up, football prices going down? Less rugby supporters being able to go to matches because of the costs, Rugby League at the JJB untenable, Rugby being outcasts and nomads again, and being without a ground to sell like last time?
It maybe the cynic in me but? :doz: :exc:

Who ever comes in will have sorted all the above issues as it will be part of the terms of contract each issue may put more on the price of the club but depending on who it is and what he is worth it may not matter.

Wrong, Thata why they had to but Utd with most the money being loaned from a bank which is now being paid back with interest, which is why ticket prices are now going up plus of the 50 odd million they are spending this season.
You ned to put WRLFC in perspective here.

The whole club, kit and caboodle could not pay Heskey's wages for a season.

Borrowed money or not you have to have the where with all to repay it - otherwise we would all have a "Beckingham palace" wouldn't we?

Have you bumped your head?

I have no idea what heskey gets paid - however, even if he was paid £50K a week that would still only be 2.6 million year and are you serious suggesting that you could by the club for that? The training ground in Orrell is worth more than that and as part of the club it is one of it's assets. That's before you even start looking at the revenue the club generates.

Then there is the prestige of the WWRL name - which despite what rabid Cas fans may think, is still the biggest name in RL

Interviewer: So that obviously means that you're not going to St Helens and you're not going to Leeds?

Frano: I don't know why I would ever want to go to St Helens or Leeds

Alright! Alright!

I may have got my sums wrong - make it 2 seasons or Heskey and the Goalie!

Wigan would be worth alot of money, its the name and the brand and what the name means around the rugby world. Compared to football it wouldnt match it but i wouldnt say Wigan football is worth more than the rugby, they are a very mediocre side so it wouldnt cost much more than the rugby.
Get real!

Every soccer club outside the 4th division (now div 2) is worth more in £'s than WRLFC and probably half of the fourth.

WWRL makes a PROFIT - how many football clubs do? I don't think the latics do

I think the sheer size of Premiership football, and the colossal amount of money that Latics are required to turn over just to be part of that world, only adds to the scorn that many RL fans hold for them, especially given that, in their home town, Latics are only marginally better supported than the so-called poor man's game (and even then, it's debateable how much of their support actually comes from Wiganers).

But at the end of the day, none of this really matters. Wigan and Latics have always been two separate entities (with the odd cross-over of fans here and there), and now that Whelan is stepping back, they always will be. They move in different universes, and there's no contact or comparison possible between them.

For example, all this talk about who's worth more is meaningless because Latics must spend an awful lot more merely to keep their heads above water.

Likewise when it comes to branding - in purely RL terms, Wigan are THE brand-name. In football, Latics are infintely less so - they play to a much bigger TV audience these days and will now be on the radar of people who previously never knew they existed, but not as serious contenders. Thus, in relative terms, their brand is still much smaller than Wigan's, though you don't have to look at it in 'relative terms' if you'd rather not.

Suffice to say this: Wigan, for all their current problems, are still a dominant force in their own world. Latics are not, but can console themselves with the knowledge that their world is bigger (which doesn't impress Wigan fans, but if it impresses Latics fans, that's the main thing).
