Dobson?
When he left wigan we were told that it wsa because he want to play representative football therefore as there is no chance of him doing that playing in the SL, there was no chance of keeping him. Now its coming out thats he's a hot tip to take over from stacy jones?, i know the main reason was probably the arrival of Barrett, which beggars the question - Trent or Dobo?, I know the decision is a no brainer at the moment, but what about the long term?
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure
Re: Dobson?
There's no chance of it happening until TL's contract has run its course. However, the spadework would have to be done long before then, and if TL got wind of it, how would that affect him?
I think we're struggling at scrum-half at present. TL will have to improve radically next season, or I too will start to believe that he doesn't meet the famous 'Wigan standard'. But for the moment, for the sake of a settled team and a settled half-back pairing, I feel we should concentrate on signings that we need imminently rather than signings we might like to see in the future.

Re: Dobson?
Dobbo being the player that he is, we should try to get hold of him in any case. Competition for places is not a bad thing. Are TL and Dobbo not multi positional, Micky Higham set of his career at 7. Dobbo's field kicking game was inspirational, well worth the buck's on its own.Cruncher posted:

Re: Dobson?
i thought the reason we couldn't keep him after his spell with us was because he was already committed to a contract with canberra?

We could not have kept him anyway because by then we had already a full overseas quota for this year with Fletcher, Barrett and Bailey already signed on.Wigan_forever19 85 posted:

IIRC the reason he went back was as much to do with the fact his Aussie club held his contract as getting rep honours. He was on loan to Catalans first and us second so when the loan period ended he want back to his contracted club.
Long term I'd have him back because as someone else said competition for places is a good thing. We have no specialist cover for half back so he would strengthen the squad. Now its coming out thats he's a hot tip to take over from stacy jones?, i know the main reason was probably the arrival of Barrett, which beggars the question - Trent or Dobo?, I know the decision is a no brainer at the moment, but what about the long term?
A few weeks ago I would have said ship TL to Les Cats and bring Dobbo back but over the last few games TL has just about done enough to convince me he might be much better next season (which he needs to be).
So lets have both! But of course that won't happen.

Indeed. TL and Barrett are both contracted for 2 more years, and I don't think there's a case for having a reserve half-back taking up a 20/25 slot, which Dobson would.DaveO posted:We could not have kept him anyway because by then we had already a full overseas quota for this year with Fletcher, Barrett and Bailey already signed on.Wigan_forever19 85 posted:

In these days of centres playing second row, wingers playing full back surely we can find a place for him if he is interested. His enthusiasm alone is worth the money.
