Was one of the most charactaristic refferees going you did not argue with "Sgt Major Eric Clay"
Hope the RL honours him and is not forgottton a stalwart to RL.
Modern day refferees would not hold a candle to him .

A funeral service for former rugby league referee Eric Clay will be held at Rawdon Crematorium this Friday, October 12 (12.20pm).

Mr Clay, who was universally known as "Sergeant Major Eric Clay" because of his authoritative style, died last week in Wheatfields Hospice, Leeds after a short illness. He was 85.

A full obituary will appear in Saturday's Yorkshire Post.

Used to watch him ref. years ago. Took no nonsense from any of the players and was respected by them. A sad loss.
