I think its a great idea to have the Mike Gregory Cup that involves the two clubs that he was associated with, but, I also think that it would put paid to the hope that the "Grand Final Cup" would be named in his honour.

Dont know can't see into the future, if you read my post it will only be played january 2009.

Well I for one do not want this to be a New Yeas Day thing.

I would much rather see this played as a porper pre season friendly with something approaching the proper teams taking the field.

Boxing day and New Years day games used to be good because they were for league points. Once they become friendlies you soon end up with just the youngsters playing and then the crowds dwindle. Then it becomes meaningless.

IMO
I would love both clubs to agree to play this each year as their last friendly.

We would be pretty likely to see two decent line ups and the players would be ready for battle.

Lets honor the memory of Mike Greg by making his matches something really worthwhile and important.

Personally I want Wigan to play Warrington in their first SL game year on year and the winner be awarded the Gregory Cup.

Friendlies do not work not in the modern era
