Salary Cap Increase on cards?

Post by Spanakopitta »

Figures also released today show that eight of the 12 Super League clubs are likely to reach the maximum spend under the salary cap this year, compared to just three in 2002.

"League officials predict that in 12 months' time all clubs will have reached the maximum £1.65million, which created a further levelling of standards across the competition.

Would be great for our sport if in 12 to 24 months we could make a press announcement that our salary cap is going to rise!
Sends a great message out to potential new sponsors and the public in general."

Don't know where the original information came from but....

even without an increase in the salary cap, how soon before a super league gets into financial difficulties??????

Given that the RFL have removed the rule which states spending up to the cap limit OR 50% OF A CLUBS INCOME.

are the RFL being stupid in trusting the clubs not to spend beyond their means?

Would agree a raise in cap but think the decision to remove the 50% of income part was very foolish

Absolutely. That was the original, very sensible, point of the cap, only later did the "level playing field" idea come in, effectively to try and lower everyone to the same level. The fact that it hasn't worked (just look at the list of winners since the cap came in) doesn't seem to bother them.
