whelan and the rise of latics

Post by Spartak_Warrior »

I miss the glory days of central park. Ever since whelan took over this club things have never been the same. His main interest blatantly lies with latics, he's promised em £40 million if they go up. I dont see him shelling out like this for us. If they make it to the prem and we dont win owt, I can see our town sadly turning into a crap sport hotbed. We should get rid of him and the latics.

I totaly agree with you. Weve kept Wigan on the sporting map and now its a case of thank you and good bye. 40 million will not be enough to survive in the Prem and i gurantee u they will be relegated in the first season.

Let be honest with the Warriors Reputation we cant get a World Class player to join now what hope is there for the Latics.

its not guranteed they'll go back down. teams with less money have stayed up such as bolton, charlton, southamton, fulham, palace, birmingham.

They would go straight down. Only Ipswich look like they have any chance of surviving in the premiership, but the quality is that bad in the championship it might just make them look good.

Theyll goi down as the clubs you metioned

Southampton have been in the Prem since its inseption
Bolton were up and down a few times.
Palace are coming straight back down.
Fulham are in London and therefore attract quality players. Latics will not get these.
Birmingham have a massive fan base and have spent more than 40 million in the last few years.
Charlton too wee up and down.

What you need to remember that the 40 million will need to go towards the wages as well as the transfer fee. Therefore your talking of only 25-30 million at tthe most.

i take your point, however if we dont win anything prem football will be attractive to the kids. Im seeing more latics shirts around wigan than ever. Loads of small kids wearing em, we need to attract them to our superior sport. Theres not much between our average attendences these days.

Yesterday was the first time they broke the 10,000 mark. 15,000 Leeds fans?

Whelan can't spend the money on the Rugby because of the salary cap, not necessarily anything to do with the Latics.
I'm sure he wants both clubs to be successful at the highest levels of their sport as that is the surest way to make any kind of financial success.

The Latics are rising and the only reason that they haven't already overtaken our averages for me is that the Sky/Premier League/Media Frenzy perpetrated over the last 10 years or so has ensured that Premier League football "is all that matters" if and when they get there a lot of the ethnic Scousers and armchair Man Us living in the town will likely get themselves a seat to watch the Premier League Circus on their doorsteps....a seat they can't get at Everton/Lpool or Old Trafford and probably at half the price anyway.

11,172 actually. Our worst was the London game, with 9,132.
