Football or Rugby Town ?

Post by Spartak_Warrior »

Latics have surprised me since they got in the prem. They used to a laughing stock back in the 80's. Now we share their ground and their average crowds are now bigger than ours!!! Are we now a football town ? So many kids wearing latics tops these days. We should never have left central park or let Whelan take over.

I'm not one to say things like we are a football town or a Rugby town but one basic fact on attendances never gets a mention. When the JJB stadium is full of rugby fans 80% plus are Wigan fans. When the JJB stadium is full of football fans only 50% are Wigan fans. Football is the national game and teams like Everton Liverpool & Manchester United could fill the JJB without letting a single Wigan fan in.

Is suppose it does sum it up niceley, wigan is without doubt a football town. Look at our crwods against the poorer teams in our division. If we didnt play Saints so often our average would be woeful. We are sharing their ground and its a disgrace what has happened to our club and we just let it happen.

Mining or a textile town?

or even a Canning Town?

Ah the joysof irrelevant silly debates

Here is a better one for our football friend to take back to his friends. Are we a Manchester, or a Wigan, or a Merseyside following football town

see MIke B taking the diplomatic approach well ball cocks to diplomacy Mike

We are and always will be a RUGBY LEAGUE town
sanwiched in between some of the biggest football clubs in the world ( Man u and Pool) and look at the crowds that the other lot get. Of course they should average better gates than us, football is the national sport. They do not have the like of Wakey, Bratfud,London,Cats. etc coming in a Blue star taxi. I for one think there attendances are a reflection of what the rest of the Premier League think of them, second rate.

WE who support the Rugby will always be :

WIGAN TILL I DIE
Wigan is and always will be a town of Cherry & White
