SALARY CAP

Post by JIMMY H »

CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN THE RULES OF THE SALARY CAP
HOW CAN SAINTS AFFORD TO KEEP PLAYERS LIKE LONG,
SCULTHORPE,CUNNINGHAM ETC.ETC AND WE COULD NOT
KEEP "THE PEARL" RENOUF OR FURNER. NOR DID WE BUY ANY NEW TOP PLAYERS BUT ALSO LOST CONNOLLY
AND EVEN SIMON HAUGHTON, WHO NEVER SEEMED TO GET A GAME.

A VERY CONFUSED JIMMY H

The answer was simple a few years ago, we had Betts on £250,000 a year, robinson, tuigamala etc. These players pushed up salary cliams from other players increasing the average players wages. And we have been over the salary cap every season until now.

Radlinski was kept on a club GB contract where the RL pays some of his wages.

But now, we've lost Betts, Robinson, Connolly, Renouf, Johns, Furner etc. I'm not sure if we needed to loose all these player to get under the cap. I guess, we were that far over originally that we had too loose all these guys just to get under but I'm not sure.

Anyway, with all the youngsters coming through, I reckon we may not have too much problem staying under the cap now.
