IT'S COME TO SOMETHING
IT'S COME TO SOMETHING
it's come to something when dobson says he went to hkr because they are the most progresive club in sl and he liked the set up and the way that justin morgan wants him and the club to play, and the quality of players that he is putting together.well i never thought i would see the day that hkr would have more pulling power than the mighty warriors, mighty my backside,we should be able to premote our club as one of the best in the world, with an exciting brand of rugby, but guess it goes to show that the way we are playing and the players that we have, are putting off future players putting pen to paper.i know it is only one player i am on about here but he had experience of the club and may be he sees it as another rescue mission and not a step forward in his carear. i am still smarting from sundays performance, and now wonder how we can turn it round and attract the quality players we need and deserve

Re: IT'S COME TO SOMETHING
I would imagine that the reason Dobson went to KR over us is that he is guaranteed the No 7 shirt and a place in the side. If he came here he would probably have to wait until next year when Barrett leaves and that would mean playing 6. Although there is little difference between the two positions (especially the way we play) it might have made a difference to him.
Also don't discount money. Although Justin Morgan has said that the offers available were "all of a muchness", I would think that KR had a lot more available space on the salary cap than we did.

Re: IT'S COME TO SOMETHING
It is a problem when players prefer to go to other clubs than come to us,Dobson is an example. We are the most famous and greatest RL club in this country yet we keep letting top players go elsewhere which is why we are seventh in the league halfway through the season.I still believe that we have allowed businessmen rather than genuine RL men to run our club.Whelan had money but no allegiance to Rugby League.I dont think Lenaghan is going to be any different, apparently we are signing Piggy Riddell who has been an average player for 10 years.Look at Carmont,Bailey,Coley,Price(who has not even played yet). Not bad players but just about average. We will not get back to our great days until people like Hanley,Edward come along and take over the club to take us back where we belong

We dont need Dobson do we though? No.
He is right, HKR are going somewhere, Morgan is a quality coach and he wants to go on that journey

Dobson's is a professional and has gone were the money is,IL will not be offering the kind of money MO did to attract players.Which is a good thin IMO.Matthew wrote:I would imagine that the reason Dobson went to KR over us is that he is guaranteed the No 7 shirt and a place in the side. good players will not come for nothing so I dont think it is good........if we are happy keeping the cap down we may aswell be happy sitting mid table cos thats where we will be as its where we are aspiring to be.

It's true you have got to pay for quality players. The sides that win things have quality players in them and they don't play for average wages.pedro wrote:good players will not come for nothing so I dont think it is good........if we are happy keeping the cap down we may aswell be happy sitting mid table cos thats where we will be as its where we are aspiring to be.
I think we may be able to let IL off for a couple of years in terms of outbidding other clubs for target players until some big contracts we have are gone. Fielden and those players who took deferred payments in exchange for longer contracts - Hansen and Feka will IMO be where most of the money is tied up.
That said we surely have Barrett's wage to band about as of next season. I don't think he is on the mega-bucks some think but I also don't think he is earning an average wage either.
As for Dobson he was great for us last time because he was better than Moran and could kick goals but he isn't an outstanding player. We would have also had to take him on now and if we need a new player this season it's a prop forward. So I doubt we pushed the boat out to try and get him and nor should we have done IMO.
It's the players we sign in the positions we really need to beef up that will show how serious we are and how attractive we are to players we want to bring in.

Re: IT'S COME TO SOMETHING
Pedro my point is that Mo threw a lot of money at average players which i dont think IL will and that is in IMO a good thing. We broke the salary cap at least twice and have not won anything.Other clubs seem to be able to sign good players and not break the cap.Im not happy to be sitting mid table i want us to be winning things.pedro wrote:good players will not come for nothing so I dont think it is good........if we are happy keeping the cap down we may aswell be happy sitting mid table cos thats where we will be as its where we are aspiring to be.
