Forgot to mention a "survival bag" in the list of items above, but the most experienced walkers will have them anyway, oh and don't forget the midge repelant.
I didn't go to the match on Friday, thought I'd have a recc'e of what we have in store. Set off at 6-30 from Wigan, and got to Fort William at midnight, I was going 70-80 mph to Glasgow, traveled towards Stirling, up through Calander, Crianlarigh, Tyndrum, Glen Coe and up. The roads were very good, Road works just going across the border for 6 miles or so at 50 mph, I went that way as the route is faster, although going via Loch Lomond the scenery is a bit better but more bends in the road, personal preference I suppose.
Slept in the car for a few hours then set off up, perfect walking weather, the path very good, the mist was at 4,000 feet, a bit of rain, not much snow but enough on top to look impressive on the photo's. Coming down, the mist had lifted a bit more, the views - you will have to wait till next week to appreciate them, (you cannot describe them, just have plenty film in your camera). The sun was shining, which made it very hot (I was glad I was going down and not up at that stage).
The knees were sore when I got down but 2 pints of medicine at the Ben Nevis Inn (£2.95pt most beers) soon put that to rights, it seems a nice clean place, the pub part is not very big, a nice patio area outsite, stunning views all around, idilic.

Re: Ben Nevis walk-Update/Chec...
Cheers for that Mick Great stuff. For anyone wanting to go up via Loch Lomond you head for Glasgow then follow the M8 Towards Glasgow Airport, Cross over the Erskine Bridge then at the other side branch left Taking the road to Loch Lomond then up towards Tyndrome, Glen Coe to Fort William AS Mike Said its a windy road but the scenery is good.
Also it is a busy road to be taken with a lot of care as usually a few accident in the summer due to tourist not paying attention to the road.
A few people have been asking about What is happening with the sponsor money raised once we have done the walk.
I have suggested that each person sent a cheque along with thier sponsor form and a cover letter saying how the money was raised, To the Mike Gregory Trust. That way everyone knows that the Trust has got the money that they have raised.
I have e-mailed or txt everyone who is taking part & MikeH is willing to give a safety talk the night before the walk & TonyT is also a very experienced walker is helping out as a guide to. Many thanks to Both You Guys as you have been a great help.
As iv said before this is a great team effort by all on this site and the facebook site who are taking part.
Many thanks to all of you.

Re: Ben Nevis walk-Update/Chec...
Hi guys
Just to confirm what we're doing.
Setting off at about 9am so hopefully should be there around 4, given a few stops.
I'm more nervous about the drive up there than the actual walk
Also just a quick enquiry, considering I drive a 1.2, how many tanks will it take me to get there and get back?

How many gallons does your Tank Hold? You are talking about 315 Miles to get to Fort Willaim & the same going back to Wigan so a total or about 630Miles Greg work out how many miles you get to a full tank & how many miles to the gallon, you will get more on the motorway if you stick to 60MPH should take you about three and a half hours to get to Glasgow depending on how many stops you make. Then depending on which route you take about another two and a half hours after that to get to Fort William.mikesnephew wrote:Hi guys![]()

Well mind and take a few stops mate if your doing all the driving yourself. Road works before Gretna just after Carlisle on the way up and round about Hamilton just before Glasgow so expect a few minor delays at both of these.Leyther Pie wrote:I will be setting off between 12 and 1 coz working till twelve on friday so hoping to be there about sevenish. Have had a look at AA & RAC Route Finders & going Via Loch Lomond Rather than Via Stirling is the shorter route and pretty straight forward one too.
All you do when you get near Glasgow is head for the Airport on the M8 motorway then Cross over the River Clyde Via the Erskine Bridge, as you cove of the bridge Keep left and head for Crianlaroch Via Dunbartone on the A82
Hope this helps

Re: Ben Nevis walk-Update/Chec...
For all those doing the Walk and raising money i thought the best idea would be for Everyone to send in the money that they raise along with sponsor forms, & a cover note saying how it was raise direct to the Mike Gregory Fund.mike binder wrote:me 2 we will pass on to leighther pie or tony tt ,pass to me and ill pass on i have some here as wellNobby`s Girl wrote:When will you be wanting all the donation and sponsor money?? i have some hear from people to add to the bucket.
That way everyone knows that it gets there and its not left to either myself or Gemma to have the responsibility for a vast sum of money raised.
I hope this makes sence to all concerened, as this way the Trust will see the effort put in by all & not down to one or two who have organised it.
Any probs please send me a Private message on the site, or e-mail me, or txt/call
Trying to make it as simple and easy as possible without puting a lot of responsibiliy on any individuals.
