Wigan's Accounts

Post by billyboy »

The accounts for the last 2 years have just been published:

In 2006 we lost £1.72 million.
In 2007 we lost £684 thousand.

Both these sets of accounts reflect the Whelan / Lindsay administration running up to November 30th of each year.
Ian Lenegan took over the club on 3rd December 2007 for £3.1 million.

Orrell cost a minimum of £2 million. So as Mike says it accounts for most if not all of those figures. A good investment.

Have I read that correctly? Ian Lenegan only paid £3.1million for the warriors?
Surely not, what a bargain.

Neither of the above accounts include payments for Orrell's ground, only refurbishment of the clubhouse which isn't broken down into an exact figure.

The total paid out in contract terminations over those two years is £400 thousand. This could include payments to players / coaches from previous years.

So how on earth did the club make such a huge loss in 2006?

It can't be wages as we didn't break the salary cap by 200% !!

2006 would we not have paid Millwards contract out and Fieldens transfer of £450.00 and all the other pay offs to Jerry Se Seu,Dennis Moran

That still can't account for £1.76 million surely! The player pay outs would also count on the salary cap so we would have been way over if all bar Fielden's transfer fee and Millwards pay off counted.

Dave ,
Millward must have been on a fair screw and the Fielden transfer took a big chunk ,we were £170.000 over the cap put this together with the pay offs and it goes along way towards the deficit.
On the other hand gates started going up as the Ancient and Loyal fans started to get behind the team.

A lot would depend on internal transfers within Whelan enterprises. Rent for JJB etc. A lot of that loss could be money transfered between departments. Rates percentage, shared management. The overall group profit would show where the cost went. If Latics are running at a loss there is no point in Warriors making a profit and paying tax. We know how good the warriors accounts were re salery cap so why should these be better ballanced. HC
