Not to sure about this Riddle guy at all. Not liking stories iv heard either. And with this new rumour of Tim what-ever his name and who-ever he is person, the 2 seam good buddies.

Ok we can give them both a chance maybe.

But let me tell them, they come to Wigan and give us respect NOT a bad name!!! :exc:

IL or JL hope you read.

We have a team full of great guys, some of who are the nicest guys i ever met, will 2 "happy larry" guys up-set or rub of on some of our big stars? Because i seriously hope not!
Think you would find that if our players were in the NRL they would get a lot of bad press . The media spotlight in Aus is focused on RL a lot more , the Fekka incident is small time news over here it would be a front page Headline in Aus , also other players would get stuff thrown at them by the media and they could not be as open as they are with regards to some things they do off the field
Tim Smith has a medical problem made worse if he drinks Riddell likes a beer but he wont be on his own at Wigan .

The arrogance of this post takes some beating.

"This Riddle guy ..."

"Tim whatever he is and whoever he is ..."

"2nd seam good buddies ..."

Good grief, there are times when I can see why Wigan fans are so disliked.

Is it only important that your team be filled with the nicest (and presumably fittest) guys you've ever met? Or do you want to win some trophies?

On the strength of this post, I'd be very surprised if IL and / or JL ever read your stuff again, assuming they were reading in the first place.

Mark Riddel is one of the best hookers in Australia (which, whether we like it or not, means in Britain as well). Tim Smith (not a difficult name to remember if we're not trying to be clever, is it) has as much talent in his little finger as all the halfbacks in Britain put together. IF we sign Tim Smith, we'll be very, very lucky indeed.

And for Heaven's sake, don't buy into this "Happy Larry behaviour rubbing off on our big stars" nonsense. Trust me, there are Wigan players in our current squad who would shock you rigid if you saw what they get up to when they're out on the town.

I suspect you knew what she was getting at with the original comment. We are probably too "nice" on the pitch lacking any enforcer types but I am pretty sure she was referring to off-field behaviour. Now given Riddle and Smiths previous record in this regard anyone who does not have at least a tiny reservation about this is IMO the eternal optimist.

That is overstating the case. As far as I know he isn't one of the best hookers in Australia at all as he isn't in-line for representative honours and he certainly isn't giving up a test jersey to come here. He still may be better than most in SL but lets not get carried away.

He may well be as talented as you say but his signing will be a risk due to his illness (bi-polar disorder) which basically in simple terms means severe mood swings that can lead to erratic behaviour (putting it mildly).

I am sure there are but the question is, are we adding to the bunch of such players at the club with these two?

The last player with a reputation who we gave a chance to was Julian O'Neil and that really worked out well (not).

If we have signed Smith God help us :( He had a good rookie season and then went to pieces to the point he had to be told to stop turning the ball back inside. He is a scrum half anyway not a stand off.

A very ordinary scrum half and one with mental health issues.

I wish him well with his mental health issues. Bipolar ruins lives. Some things are more important than rugby. If he comes here, I'll back him 100%. Hopefully if he comes here, it's a sign he'll either be feeling better or will be hoping to find life here easier than in Aus. Sadly, bipolar is something that is difficult to treat, as are many forms of depression (I know I'm no doctor...). But best wishes to him whatever he decides to do.

Dave
I don't care whether they're nice off the pitch or not - though where this notion has come from about Riddel, I don't know. The guy seems to have won people over in Wigan already and he hasn't even arrived yet. But even if he wasn't a nice guy, as far as I'm concerned, he's here to do a job on the pitch and if he does that successfully - i.e. better than the 'nice guys' we've currently got - then it's okay by me.

Have reservations, by all means, but for Heaven's sake, give people a chance. Whatever happened to welcoming newcomers (especialy when, as you yourself admit, they're "better than most in SL")?

As for Smith's condition - sure, it sounds like a problem. But we're none of us doctors, and even if we are, we haven't had access to Smith's medical records, which I suspect Wigan will have had if they are to make this kid an offer. And please, don't compare him to Julian O'Neill. This is the second time I've heard this recently. O'Neill was, at best, an average player. Smith is a very fine player who is also a lot younger. Assuming we're not offering him something silly like 200 grand a year, the potential of this signings outweighs the risks.

Does that matter though with the way the game is played these days and especially Nobby likes our Pivots to play?? The only thing a scrum half does these days is feed the scrum. I think we're just signing him as an individual pivot.
