Castleford v. Wigan - Discussion

May as well start a thread off.

Attacking wise we look ok last week against Catalans, scoring 38 points away from home is pretty impressive against Les cats defence... Phelps looks fast and nippy... fresh even so I hope he will figure highly for us hopefully alongside Calderwood on the right... but, I doubt this will happen.

Need to start Hock he should be fit.

Main problem is obviously defence, shocking last week but on this rollercoaster ride we should win, hopefully.

And if we lose, wait for "We need to get back on the bicycle; got to get here early enough for the train next time; After trying in vain the past few weeks it seems like Humpty Dumpty's fate was terminal" from Mr. Noble.

I think it would be an embarrasment if we lost, No disrespect to Castleford but we are alot better class of team than they are, unfortunately i wont be able to go, "i get married the day before, wrightington country club"
, i would be very disapponted if we lost, im sure the lads will pull it together and give thm a good game and come away with the much needed 2 points

If we lose to Cas then I can't really see us doing much else this season. We need to do well here - a win will just not be enough; we need to put some points on the board and protect our line

Castleford (+10) v Wigan

Brian Noble has issued another rallying call at Wigan this week and they just can't get on a roll this season. They are due a big performance this week and should get one and cover the start. Cas are very workmanlike but the Warriors have more quality in key positions. Wigan are still struggling in the forwards but should have too much for the Tigers.

Hope he is right. Correct about our forward line and we do have quality in the backs (apart from Colbon and mathers)... just hope Tommy has improved his kicking a good 40/20 is around the corner methinks.

Unless my memory is incorrect - Wigan did pretty well under Mike Gregory the season before Millward joined. He was brought in mid season after Betts was thought to be too inexperienced for the job when poor Mike became to ill to continue(despite never having lost to stains whilst in charge).

We then failed to reach the SL play-offs for the first time in our history; before Millward pulled his master stroke of getting us record defeats in SL and CC respectively and taking us to the brink of relegation before being sacked - oh and he signed a load of players from NL1 - imagine what people would say about Noble if he did that!

One things for sure, according to the SKY Sports statistics, Wigan have the second best attack away from home (second only to Leeds).

The worrying factor, is that despite that figure, Wigan have the worst defensive efforts away from the JJB!

Oddly, in comparison, at home we are the second worst attacking side! (behind Hull), but with the second best defensive effort there (behind Leeds).
