Reserves lose to Saints.
Re: Reserves lose to Saints.
K.eastmond was offerd a 3yr deal by dean bell when he was 16yr old he turn it down
Re: Reserves lose to Saints.
Did he support Saints or something Mano? Hence why he opted for them?
What did you think of yesterday?
I thought Howarth looked better at hooker than stand off/loose forward and it was good to see Gerrard play the better opposition. Just short of a bit more pace/strength. Tried hard though.
What happened to Stanton when he pulled up?

My theory re Stanton is that he would look better the higher up he goes.mano wrote:Eastmond was a st.helens from being 14 yrs old if he would have signed sam tomkins would be at widnes now.

Howarth was very impressive. I thought the timing of the pass was excellent too for the close range tries and he copped some dirty crap off Saints when doing so. Tackled hard too. Sam Gee is a nice lad but he does not have a SL future. It would be good to see Howarth given a go at 9

Re: Reserves lose to Saints.
sam tomkins and sam reay r both playing out of there skins with ball in hand they are always a threat both players must be waiting for a 1st team call up reay is the best centre in reserve league put stanton in for 2 certain trys only for stanton to pull up injured he played loose forward 2nd half and was as good a forward on the pitch how good would reay be if he was given a full time contract wigan would get this lad fairly cheap what does anybody eles think

I also regulary used to watch the reserves and academy when they used to play at Central Park. Some of the best rugby I ever saw. Yet curiously, very few ever "made it" in the game.cpwigan wrote:Billy the younger lads are often far more enjoyable to watch. Kyle Eastmond was outstanding for Saints (think he scored a hat-trick). He had to be special to outshine Sam Tomkins who doesn't deserve to be playing at this level for much longer.
Calderwood scored a brilliant try from nothing in the first half but was a little suspect when put under pressure - especially from kicks (conceding one try and very lucky when Saints knocked on for a second).
Sam Reay was outstanding in the centre, beating the first man every time and looking a constant threat.
Not sure who was playing no. 10 for Wigan as this was the first time I have watched the reserves in a long time, but he put in some tackles that the first team pack should watch and learn from.
Seriously considering Friday nights in the pub from now on and Saturday afternoons watching good rugby.
For those of you who like me are getting bored of Friday night dross, go and watch these lads. I watched them lose, but everybody there saw a team play with pride and clapped them off the pitch despite losing to the Scousers.
P.S. Saints must have been penalised about 12 times for head shots. At one point their coach came down from the back of the stand, leant over the barriers and shouted to his players to try to keep it clean. Soon had my boy leaning over the barriers abusing the Scousers, and he's only 6. Thats My Boy!

The biggest Room is the Room for improvement.
The best form of defence is attack!!

Would it make any difference?cpwigan wrote:The question should be why did Saints find him before we did.
We have had succession of halves since Gregory and shouldn't be struggling in this key deparment as we have for a decade or more. I include Lam in this also.
Since Greg (best half in the country) the club have managed to lose Goulding, (best half in the country) Long (best half in the country): surely the most disgracefully treated player of this Wigan generation? : missed out on Deacon ( sometime the form half of the country) Both have gone on to laugh in our faces and continued to collect trophies unavaiable to Wigan players. Failed to bring on Robinson (we were told he was the next Greg!) Similar story with Brown. never shown any interest in Briers when he became available at Sts.
The club's accuisition, treatment and judgement of half backs is lamentable.

I think the lack of intensity in defence compared to first team. The lack of pressure, need to play purely for territory allows players more freedom and a greater emphasis upon attack.butt monkey wrote:I also regulary used to watch the reserves and academy when they used to play at Central Park. A lot of the Fiday Alliance team made it into top class rugby under Westy. However, 2 per year group is a realistic expectation.

You could add Mike Ford, Keith Holden, Craig Rogers, Steve Blakely, Stuart Fisher, Lee Atherton, Craig Murdock, Phil Jones and probably a few more!Doveoverdave wrote:Would it make any difference?cpwigan wrote:The question should be why did Saints find him before we did.
