Should we cut our losses and let Barrett go now?

Post by Matthew »

This was discussed after his announcement to return home mid-season. However now it has been publicly stated by the club that Barrett is not interested:

From last night's forum
"Trent was a great leader last season, but his head's not there this year because he's leaving and you can either blame him or feel sorry for him.
(Thanks to Geoff for the link)

Barrett is (well) paid to be our principal playmaker and lead the team around the field. If IL is prepared to criticize him at a fans forum; then it is pretty obvious that his attitude is poor to say the least. Should we cut our losses and send him home now? Our season is pretty much a done deal and would things be any worse if we stuck Smith at Stand off and kept Lulu at Scrum half with second half appearances from Sam Tomkins?

Barrett's legacy at Wigan will be one good season, one indifferent one and not honouring his last season. Which is a lot less than most of us hoped for and frankly the fact that he doesn't seem to care is the most upsetting thing of all
"And Martin Offiah, trying to make some space, now then..." - Ray French, Wembley 1994

Interviewer: So that obviously means that you're not going to St Helens and you're not going to Leeds?

Frano: I don't know why I would ever want to go to St Helens or Leeds

Let him go now he is not the player we signed and was total rubbish on friday.
he is an Aussie and therefore is not bothered about Wigan as a town or the fans. he will go home and carry on with his career and not give a second thought for Wigan.

Yes. Posted somewhere as to the merits of signing him. He has been a one hit wonder, that has proved to be as unprofessional as you can get. (He hasn't got the wit to plan a family around his contract)

If its true that Feka has shed 10k with 10 to go he should go to as it is unbelievable for a player to be 3 stone overweight at anytime never mind in mid-season. you might as well stick a pair of bootss on me!!!!

i'd let the guy go. or at least give him a backseat.

surely we'd benefit from allowing Tim Smith, and LuLu (or maybe even Phelps in there after last nights comments) the chance to form a partnership?

if we loose our figure head and find we are less of a team without Trent then it shows others players such as LuLu, Smith ect that they have to start opening their gobs and leading!

it'll take at least 5/8 games at the beginning of next season for our half backs to form a desired partnership, so surely we'd be at an advantage starting that process now, and not suffering next year?

Trent Barrett may have one foot on the plane but what other options do we have? He is still our most creative player, wait until next season, we will happilly have him back with only half of his mind on the job.

Can someone explain to me what excuses the other 16 from Friday night are giving!

Last season, TB was outstanding the fact that he didn't get the Man of Steel award was daily robbery. The biggest problem he has got, no it's not his wife moaning to go home, it is the fact that the pack playing in front of him is not good enough! We have not replaced Brian Fletcher, he was quite clearly the leader of the pack and without him we are rudderless. Let's ship some of our soft six to the new boys in SL and replace them with guys who are up to the job.

Put Long and Pryce behind our pack and before not too long you would be asking for them to be dropped.

Simple philosophy poor pack, no trophies.

no relegation and therefore we should try others in his position

this year is never going to be a great one so we may aswell try stuff now for next season when we have a chance?

he was the only playe who tried on Friday, but what can a stand off do without runnes..

It just shows how blinkered people on here are saying hes not bothered, the amount of running and tackling he did totally out numbered everyone else.

You should keep an eye on the people whos staying.

Its no coincidence that when the pack is poor barret creates nothing but hen the packs on top then he does.

If someone offered me a swap..Barrett for Pryce until the end of the season, then I'd say no thanks.

Then again, it would be nice to see the tossers face he just gets thrown the ball and everyone stands watching saying well go on then....
