"I've just got off the phone to Sonny's manager Khoder Nasser and he has confirmed to me that Sonny has left the country," Greenburg said.

"Quite simply, if Sonny intends to play overseas, we'll be looking to take out an injunction which will effectively stop him playing in France, England or anywhere else he intends to do it."

Asked whether the issue was likely to end up in the courts, Greenburg said: "I suggest at this early stage that you are probably right but we are going to have to review all our options to make sure that the Bulldogs are well covered."

"I’ve had QC’s look at his contract and there is absolutely no get-out clause," said the Bulldogs boss.

Players cannot spell loyalty, never mind know what it means. Oh well, at least no-one has described them as "slaves" yet!

New Zealand's Bulldogs defector Sonny Bill Williams will return fire against the National Rugby League's legal threats by challenging its salary cap, a move that could destroy the financial foundations of Australia's four football codes.
In essence, he is prepared to detroy the foundations of the salary cap for all sports in Australia, just so he can get his "greedy hands" on the "filthy French lucre"!!!

Williams's lawyers will say the Bulldogs can pay more than his existing $450,000-a-year contract but are prevented from doing so by NRL rules that create salary parity across its 16 clubs. Williams is expected to earn the equivalent of $3 million for two years with the French club Toulon.

Some good might come out of the Sonny Bill saga then. Getting rid of the salary cap would be a good thing.
I don't see why we still have it, ability to be competitive without a salary cap should have been a requirement for the franchise.

The link you provided does not relate to your post. All it says is that the Court could force Williams to play for the Bulldogs again, but would be unlikely.

Apologies BM. Your right it is the wrong article and I cannot find the one I wanted. The site is full of SBW at the moment. Basically, the top legal sports guy said that a court never judges salary caps as black/white and that the greater good of the sport precedes any individual restraint of trade. He basically said that the salary cap would never be overturned on the basis of it being illegal as a restraint of trade.

I hate the cap and am narked I cannot find it as the article pu it across far better than I have.

I am truly dissapointed with sonny bill williams. It just shows that in the modern era of all sport, players determine their contracts.

Hopefully canterbury bulldogs win their court case and stop sonny bill playing because it occurs to me that he has shown no respect to the club who has made him the player he is.
