Re: Well done to all the prope...
So according to you; a proper fan should be grateful of a performance like the one against Huddersfield and should just take whatever the players and coach can be bothered to produce?
A true fan doesn't criticise or want improvement? They just blindly applaud no matter what happens?
Any Wigan fan that wasn't angry at the giants non even can't be that bothered about the club.
It was the reaction from the fans and the chairman that was the boot in the backside that the players and the coach needed.
If we all sat their politely clapping like you then we would have probably lost against Hull
Wake up!

Re: Well done to all the proper fans
I will go with that BW. The Hull FC showing was as bad as all our affairs against Stains this season, if not worse. What can be judged from a team that presses its oposition to just over 50 tackles in 80 minutes.
Les Cats is a different ball game, a tough ask, lets see if the team are up for it and decide from there. A close game would be enough for me.

Re: Well done to all the prope...
This type of opinion is difficlt to discuss and tends to be drowned out on the board.
I for one take a pragmatic view of our teams ability, potential and future but I can accept that it's influenced +- 20% by luck, form, historical inheritance, injury etc. But my natural position tends to be more optimistic and positive and I don't like the way that constant team sniping and moaning is the overall norm here. Hands up, I'll sledge Fekas conditioing to the ends of the earth and any fan has a right to critise a team member or performance.......
........ but for me supporting Wigan transcends these things. My support doesn't depend on or is even contingent upon performance. My club picked me. Not the other way around.

Re: Well done to all the prope...
Proper fan eh. So when i'm out rain or shine doing my lotto round , getting earache of others if we haven't played well.
When my husband goes on his round he gets same and when he sells programmes and gg tickets.
When we sell raffle tickets in the south stand bar and try to help the club. We're not "proper" fans.
When the team played badly against hudds I did not boo or chant , but I did not clap them off either.
So I guess I am not a "proper" fan either.
We are surely allowed our opinions of how we see the match and players, we do live in a democracy.
So wgn wrs grow up some people won't tolerate rubbish every week.
We all pay for our season tickets and we are entitled to expect our players to perform to the best of their ability.
This was not done at the hudd match.

Surely simply praising and adoring the players come what may is worthless. Far better to praise and damn on the basis of what the players do.
Re: Well done to all the prope...
Well, in most people's eyes, it seems that their idea of a "proper fan" is one who agrees with them.
As far as I'm concerned, anyone who pays their hard-earned cash, or gives up their valuable time, to watch the team is a proper fan.

Re: Well done to all the prope...
I wasn't at any of the last 3 games my holidays were booked well before the fixtures came out and are governed by other factors too.

Over the years there have been some dire games, I have never ever boo'd my team off, I have never left early either, many times i too have not clapped them off at the end, but then again i have always understood why fans do boo and shout too.
In light of the Huddersfield game and the fans reaction, i feel the boo's and chants of the few have had a positive effect on the attitudes of one or two on the field. From all accounts the players were shocked by what had happened and they did something about it!
If any players or staff at the JJB read these forums, they will understand our views, but then again we too are a minority when looking at the full picture of the people watching the Warriors.
So how do you judge who the true fan is? In my view he/she is the person who pay's their money, sits and stands there in all weathers,is deeply troubled by the bad performances and is highly elated by the good ones. The person who is out of breath after a good game irrelivent of the result and the same ones who get home after a 1 point win over Leeds and cannot sleep due the adreniline still pumping. The people who can feel justified to say "hey whats happeneing to my team and why did this happen".
To all the people who just sit on the fence and say oh they are rubbish, or such and such a player was the reason they lost tonight, those who decide who is the best and who is not playing well from the words of others and agreeing with everyone else, instead of having a thought of their own are the ones who are not the true fans! Which slot do you fall into? :conf:

I think Geoff has defined it. I never even mind that others would label fair weather or glory hunter supporters.

Re: Well done to all the prope...
There were over 12,000 Wiganers turned up AGAIN last week after that shower of sh*t the previous week. I'd say that a good few of them Booooed and chanted the previous week yet they STILL turned up.
Were do you get the badges with WIGAN RL PROPER FAN on it?
