Whether I rate Briers or anybody else is actually immaterial. What I do know is our senior highly paid players are £ for £ the worst in SL.

Bailey is another apparently well paid. I am not sure I would even select him in the 17 when everybody is fit. You think I dislike Fielden

It would be hard for Fielden not to improve. He has been better but versus Leeds he was poor and non existent at times. Remember, this is the highest paid player at Wigan RLFC, probably in the top half dozen of the entire SL. Does his form good or bad justify his salary? NO. I wonder how he weill fare v Saints?

The same could be said of Hock and Lockers as for value for money. The fact that most of Hock's absences have been through suspension is a disgrace.

Don't blame players for signing lucrative contracts!

It is very simple BM, I expect the highest paid player in any club to play to a standard commensurate with his ranking as the highest paid player. Ellery Hanley managed it. Andy Farrell managed it. Darren Lockyer manages it and so on and so on.

And every player got released re relegation which of course can no longer happen.

Matt King is in exactly the same situation as Stuart Fielden. He is the highest paid player at his club but far from the best player at that club.

Pre or current Salary Cap is irrelevant. Well actually it is not. To not be delivering in a salary cap era is a cardinal sin. You cannot afford to pay somebody a large % of your cap and have them not deliver.

Funny how when discussing DV, everybody talked about how much he was being paid. Yet, dare to say Fielden is stealing money and whoa how dare thee.

The facts are Stuart Fielden has had a very poor season. Being the 5th best prop for 3/4 of it is simply unacceptable. Barrett, if you analyse our games you will find try after try comes from a pass or kick from the man. Yes, not as good as the previous season but he could only at best match that and like any halfback you are only as good as your forwards. Trent playing for Leeds or Saints would be fantastic. Fielden could play for any team and still be the robotic unnatural RL player he has always been.

For the 4 years prior to his Wigan contract he was picked in the world xiii. His performance in his latest world club challenge had many pundits on both sides of the world saying he was the best player in the world. This is why he is a top earner and why fans find it hard to comprehend the club paying top salaries to the likes of DV and Jerry Seau Seau (SP?) who have done nothing to "earn"the massive contract offers.

He is easily the most decorated player at the club. He has taken far too long to settle at Wigan, but he is easily our best player at the moment.

Nobody has blamed them. However, with the contract comes the greater expectation that they must deliver. Nobody ever question Hanley, Edwards et al re what they earned, because they delivered.

The consensus of Bradford fans was that West Tigers was a one off and for the rest of the season he was poor. West Tigers had a very small pack which is what Fielden prefers. His best efforts for us have been v lightweight forwards.

That will always be down to personal opinion!

As someone who often likes to quote these "stats" in criticism of certain players, I find it amazing that you will not compare the so called "stars" at other SL clubs to our own. Just blatantly ignore the fact that each and every club contains highly paid players not worthy of there huge salary.

I know Fielden is probably Wigan's highest paid, yet that was the former Chairman's fault in his (and the club's) desperation to avoid relegation - which the signing helped achieve. So the fact that he is not the World's Best Prop, who batters everyone into submission in every game he plays and for the full 80 minutes, does not mean he is as bad as you make out - your opinions please on Andy Coley's performances in the last 10 rounds on a postage stamp please! He may be paid less, but penny for penny has he "earned" or "justified" what he is paid with his "lacklustre" (putting it mildly) performances.

Put it this way, if you spend £100 on a bottle of Champagne that find you don't like the taste of, is it better than spending £5 on a bottle of monkey's vomit to drink!! You like neither, but one will be more palatable than the other. :eh: Just because one is cheaper does its "failings" make it more acceptable than the other.

It is contradictory - end of and just highlights the fact that you are willing to "mess up" your own arguments to thinly disguise you total dislike (for whatever reason) of certain players. Briers, you have often pointed out is Wires "weak link" yet you are willing to argue that he is "worth his money" more than Fielden - madness!

How can it be "immaterial" as you put it. It is contradictory - end of and just highlights the fact that you are willing to "mess up" your own arguments to thinly disguise you total dislike (for whatever reason) of certain players. Briers, you have often pointed out is Wires "weak link" yet you are willing to argue that he is "worth his money" more than Fielden - madness!

I personally do not think Briers is a very good players because of his defensive weakness. However, his own coaches/fans believe he is.

On a personal level. Value for money. Not convinced but still better than Fielden. The only player on a par with Fielden is King and possibly albeit a tad cruel Sculthorpe in his last few years.

Coley? A reserve prop. Somebody who in a good side would have been like Cowie in his early Wigan career, easing his way into the team. Over the season, Coley has been better value for money than Fielden and the better player in more games than not.

Case, Dowling, Roberts, Skerrett, Davidson, Platt, Cowie, O'Connor, Smith, Pongia are to my mind real prop forwards. Fielden is a quasi second row/prop forward. The bottom line is he does not compare to any of those props I have mentioned and given the choice I would choose every one of those before the robot.
